I can hardly drink at all these days, and couldn't keep up with my mates at Uni at all 30 years ago..so its not a new thing.
Hoever......In the UK my favourites are
1) Timothy Taylors Landlord 2)Batemans XXX 2)Black Sheep Bitter 3)Theakstons Bitter (if brewed properly)..back in the old days you could get real ale Youngers Scotch bitter which was nectar, but I haven't seen it for over 20years and the keg version was rubbish. 4) Shepherd Neame 5) Jennings (Cockermouth) 6)Hartleys (Ulverston..if the brewery still exists) 6) Tetley Bitter (again, only if kept properly and few do)
John Smiths is P*ss, Sam Smiths is better. All lagers brewed under licence are P*ss.
In Germany my favourite is Weissbier and my faviourits brewery is at a monastery the Kloster Andechs just on the south side of Munich...but there is loads of good beer there and they do lager properly. I can enjoy a Becks Lager
In Crete i drink the local lager Mythos..which is tastier than most alternatives available there.
Breweries visited include Tetleys (Leeds) Twice, Batemans(Wainfleet) Twice..A big one in Frankfurt whose name I forget its so long ago, Teh aforesaid Kloster Andechs
Not bad for a non drinker
There is no better drink than a properly brewed well kept English Bitter Beer, drunk on a sunny afternoon watching a game of cricket
