How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

I was interested to see that the new 159Ti, despite being loaded with some 4-5Ks worth of extras for a paltry additional 750, cannot be further configured, i.e., if you want Bose or Xenons for example, you'll have to get down on your knees before your dealer with a a large wad of cash and beg him to work some dealer-fit magic.

The Ti is a lovely looking car with a great spec, but I'm disappointed that there is no personalisation offered. At a time when most competitors and indeed, other manufacturers under the Fiat umbrella, are moving towards a personalisation model with numberous combinations of spec. available, Alfa persists in a limited choice route and non-configurable 'special editions' (Ti, Collezione, Blackline), which collectively don't seem to follow any particular theme or strategy.

I'm fortunate that, through my partner, I benefit from the Alfa Group purchase scheme, at the moment offering a whopping 20% discount on all 159 models (except the Ti, where discount is likely to be zilch). Financially, it would make more sense for me to spec-up a 3.2 Lusso to precisely what I desire but then I can't add the key Ti parts like 19"s, sports seats, body kit, etc., all of which I'd like.

Why can't Alfa offer the equivalent of 'Sport-line' packs for those looking for better dynamics and a more sporting look, rather than coralling those addendum within the confines of a special-edition range which precludes further personalisation?

Am I alone in this thinking?

Re: How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

I must admit I find the lack of being able to fit extra's on the 159Ti a bit annoying.

I particularly want the front parking sensor what give you the graphic display on the VDU (the rear come as standard); but I'm told by a dealer they can't do that - they can supply a different type seperately but won't have the graphics.

As you say it seems crazy

Isn't the Ti a Limited Edition like the GT Blackline so therefore comes in just one spec

Not even worth a comment from Australia....'Customisation' for an Alfa Romeo esentuially means External car colour here

Ti Discount is 10% quite annoying you can't spec it up was considering a 159SW Q4 but will probably buy a BMW where I can get what I want.

Same in SA, most models are high end and has full spec. Colour choices available and most have full leather.

Precisely my point chaps - why 'limit' the availability of sporting components on the Fiat Group's sporting brand? Surely Alfa owners would be interested in a sports suspension option, for example, available across the range, or sports seats, or bigger wheel options?

The whole approach just seems very fragmented and inconsistent.

The Ti has lowered suspension (-15mm) IIRC but your looking to see these options across the Alfa range... with you now !!

Re: How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

I don't think the 159 ti is a limited edition, I think it is just a different spec level.

All the websites and adverts for the 147 TI and Collezione and the GT Blackline mentioned that they were limited editions, restricted to however many, but I've not seen any numbers mentioned for the 159 ti.

I've likely missed something, so where have we seen that says it's a limited edition?

Would that be the cow hide, by any chance?

The French market is normally very "pack"
oriented, but Alfa seem to have one of the best
option levels and additional personalisations.

In France people don't like paying for extras.
Which is why buying 2nd hand, it's not
easy to find exactly what you want.

And they are nowhere as expensive as the Germans!
(Ashtray and cig lighter? That's an option, sir!)

Re: How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

The 159Ti model here has the same extras available as other 159. Only think that is limited is the choice of colors and wheels. (5 paint colors to choose from + black interior + 19" Ti wheels)

Re: How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

Hi Gotcha, yes, seems that the 'problem' is specific to the UK market (and maybe some others?) - likely related to RHD production volumes.

I was told by my dealer yesterday that, in the UK at least, the Ti is on a limited production run and that by the time I'm looking to change the GT (late this year), will likely be unavailable. But will I be able to spec a Lusso with sports seats, lowered suspension, 19" wheels, etc? No. Ridiculous, for a sports saloon from a firmly sporting brand.

I think the way to go is what Fiat's doing with the 500: lots of (hopefully cheap) options to customise one's car.

Re: How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

i find the choice of body colour/interior colour very limiting. for instance if you get a brera in red you get a choice of black leather or er black alfatex(whatever that is) hello i dont want sodding black leather is looks awful i want sand or cream with red yet you can have both in a red 159, WTF?

could be worse though, you can spec a mini any which way you want but it means a car overpriced at 16k ends up being nearly 30k

I tend to spec my Alfas entirely in line with what the previous owners specced...

Re: How do you prefer to spec your Alfas?

Not being a big fan of monstrous depreciation losses I vowed never to buy a new car ever again, following my purchase of a brand new car when I first passed my test in '99

I've bought second hand ever since, so spec lists and choices on details are of no relevance to me
