Industrial Espionage in F1? Would you?

with the news that a McLaren employee received secret info from a ferrari employee (see the stepneygate stories on the web like this http://tisc.planet-f1.com/News/Story...466688,00.html) would you be tempted to buy or sell info for a quick buck?

really? Was it worth it?

I worked at a well know sweet manufacturers and an engineer there was sacked for this sort of thing. The security people found out and laid a trap for him, was sacked instantly once they had the proof.

Re: Industrial Espionage in F1? Would you?

lets just say that a friend of a friend of a friends half sister-in-law knew someone who may have left a company a bit cheesed of a while back. Said company were silly enough to ask this IT person to migrate the new CEO's documents when he came across from America. Aparently he forget to delete them from his USB key!

Never opened them but said it was reassuring to have them for a few months.

Not if I intended to continue working for them but if I were leaving anyway I'd give it some thought

Aye! Just don't be stoopid enough to get caught.

But I think Stepney and Coughlan just seemed to be building up a team of "experts" so they could go to Honda and blag themselves a job as a technical group. The doc's were presumably going to give them a head start in their new mission. I don't think McLaren or Honda was directly involved, as has been speculated..

not a chance, its just not worth it, look what they both have to lose! Being a huge Ferrari supporter for as long as i can remember, long before the Schumi days when they became the team to beat, i think Stepney should be hung out to dry by his balls, how could he after 14 years working with them suddenly give up confidential info. They spend maybe $250 million in F1 every year and for a little sh*t like that to go and undermine all the work every single employee in Ferrari does is unforgivable, i wanna see him go to prison in an Italian jail, let the locals get at him, Stepney you're scum!

My thoughts exactly.

Crimes are actions deemed harmful by, and punished by, society in general. So that generally, a criminal is outnumbered as soon as the crime is made public to the community. Hence the odds cannot be in favor of the criminal.

Unless it's a very common type of criminality we're talking about, against which society has turned completely apathetic. But then it's still not worth it, is it?

Re: Industrial Espionage in F1? Would you?

Anyone remember a few years ago when some GM documents were found in the VW factory in Germany? VW got into a whole heap of trouble over that one. Personally I would never have thought GM would have had anything that VW would want, but there you go...

Re: Industrial Espionage in F1? Would you?

Apart from GM ("Opel") being the number 1 car seller in Germany (and therefore VWs biggest rival) you mean?

New product plans and specifications, proces and timetables .. pretty priceless I'd have thought.

Interesting about how many are using Newpaper Journalism to make comments about things that they think they know when in fact they, like the rest of us are totally ignorant of what really went on....

They have been copying each others ideas for as long as F1 has been around. That why the cars are so closely matched, look similar and overtaking is impossible.
