Wallpaper or Paint?

If you had perfectly prepared walls for wallpaper or paint and a professional to do it for you for free (ie no DIY/financial worries), which would you choose for your home?

Excluding kitchens and bathrooms, so basically your living space and bedrooms.

If you have perfectly prepared walls ready for painting, why would you wallpaper it? Other than say woodchip paper or other textured paper for painting, which I guess the combi option applies

It's very much a fashion thing K.

Today, most people prefer paint rather than paper

How so?

Paint on paint.

Wallpaper on paint.

Wallpaper then paint. Then want to wallpaper again, do you have to strip the wallpaper?

Maybe a daft question but I have to ask

Re: Wallpaper or Paint?

With the smooth finishes now obtainable on walls, who needs paper to cover the imperfections? Ours had certainly been papered to cover the cracks, and it wasn't an old house either! When we stripped the lounge paper off, it looked like some huge Road Map. After hours of filling, smoothing prep, we now have beautifully smooth walls, which are a great back-drop, for her pictures, and 'fadish' designer frames. Go for a decent quality washable emulsion, pretty hassle free, IMO.:

Paint every time.

Clean, easy to maintain, easy to change.

Anything else just reeks "Cover-Up!"

Re: Wallpaper or Paint?

So it was in times past, Lynn.: Just know that for durability,(she likes to wash the walls when she spring cleans) Ok Vinyl washable papers are there, not so easy to remove though.: Personal choice, really, unless you are into house decor fashion, then go for paper if you fancy it? :

When I get my own place that's what I plan to do. And seeing as I have my own personal decorator, there'll be no stopping me

wallpaper then paint! when time for change, strip wall re paper and paint again! for best finish! i hate paint on plaster, its harder to cover the paint with a differant colour, it always bleeds through!!

Re: Wallpaper or Paint?

You must be using El Cheapo finishes then, with limited covering power. Alright, will concede, white on brown, is a pain, but have found most of the pastel shades allow easy cover.
