How many pairs do you have? What are they and why do you own them?

This depends. Do you count sports shoes for specific purposes?

In terms of actual shoes I have:
Trainers
Work shoes
Dress shoes (kept highly polished and only come out with the suit)
Merrell sandals

So I just sneak into your criteria.

But I also have some astroturf boots, normal football boots, and walking boots.

So I'm either perfectly manly, or a dictators strumpet, depending on your criteria.

Too many now.

Quite a few pairs of Palladium boots 'cause they are cheap. (3 pairs: Desert, sheepskin lined and water proof ones.)
Pair of Palladium shoes.
Timberland Fells
Puma faux race driving boot.
Hugo Boss faux bowling shoes.
O'Neil Flip-Flops

So 8 in-all.

(I miss my Puma 96Hour Revido boots whose soles finally disintegrated this year. )

Slippers
Everyday Black leather shoes
Everyday Brown leather shoes
Dress Black leather shoes
Walking boots
Trainers
Casual soft leather holiday shoes
Old shoes kept for when gardening/washing car etc.

I choose to wear a different pair each day, never two days running.

Two pairs of trainers + 1 pair of customised K-Swiss
One pair of Hi-Tops
One pair of gardening trainers
One pair of formal shoes
One pair of walking boots
One pair of Wellies

The sum of which is clearly far too many shoes...

Oh yeah, I forgot my old half disintegrated work shoes which I use for gardening. I regularly get laughed at because (apart from being knackered and covered in fence paint) they're quite posh shoes, so they look a bit odd to be pushing a lawn mower around in.

1 x Everyday work shoes, black lace ups.
1 x Brown lace ups. "Going out"/ dress up a bit will you? shoes.
1 x Trainers.
1 x Walking Boots.
1 x slippers.
1 x Sparco race boots, blue (worn twice!)
1 x holiday flip-flop things.

And I inherited my dad's old fishing wellies when clearing out his garage. Still not worn them but reluctant to chuck and you never know when they'll come in handy.
I also found my >25 year old Reebok footie boots in the loft over the weekend. Still in remarkably good nick. Unlike me.
And not forgetting my old cricket shoes, equally knacked but still in my old kit bag.

All in all, more than I thought. 10 if you count "everything" but in reality only 4-5 in normal, regular use.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Do you have an entire wing of your home
to house this collection of footwear?

Seven all told, but three are scruffs, so four pairs of decent shoes, two with steel heel plates, Blakeys to the uninitiated,as some times I do like to announce my prescence audibly.

A pair of Tan desert boots
A pair Dark Green Chelsea Boots in faux Ostrich skin
A pair of Black Gibsons for work (the above are made by a shoemaker based in Settle called Mark Slee)
Two pairs of Suade Loafers - Hush Puppy and Loake (one red and one dark blue)
Two pairs of Loake slip-ons (one tan and one black)
One pair of Merrell trainers
One pair Merrell walking boots
One pair steelie wellies
and two pairs of slippers.

If anyone suffers from lower back pain I really recommend having your shoes handmade. It's not as expensive as people think and it makes a hell of a difference. It also means you can choose/design what ever shoes you want.
