Same here.
My mother has a picture of me stood on the front lawn wearing dark brown trousers and a pink flared collar shirt. All hand-me-downs of course.

Now can the other '40's voter,(so far only two of us, more to follow?) kindly tell me how the problem of constant damp was remedied in that Anderson shelter?

Please start another thread perhaps entitled living 40's style with nature and air raid sirens?

Judging by the median, I'm pretty well bang in the middle of the AO demographic.

I can remember the 60's but only 'cos I wasn't born in the 50's.

How strange! I was born in the late 50's but can remember a childhood predominantly in the 60's. What makes you think I wouldn't be able to remember or is it a play on the slightly older generation which allegedly couldn't remember the decade?

I was born in 1944. My parents were lucky to get me, as babies were rationed during the war.

I was born in 1950. Left school in '67 at the height of all the '60s "fuss". A friend of mine who is much younger than me and had had a problem at uni once asked me what proper acid was like. He thought we were all on it back then He still has bad days even now Not good.

I join ZF in the '40s which puts us in the top (well oldest ) 5%

Zed having been born in 1947 I am not old enough to remember Anderson shelters. In fact I remember little before my teens, starting in 1960, nor can I remember, that supposedly iconic moment of, where I was or what I was doing when Kennedy was shot.

Driving an Alfa????

It just came up in conversation yesterday. For our generation it was just one of the things everybody was supposed to remember because, at the time, it was such a shocking event. Just googled it and it was 22 November '63 so I had just started my A level course in the Sixth Form. A bit young for a deep cover spy Russian or otherwise.

I was five when JFK was killed. I can remember
that it was news but have no idea what I was
doing when I heard it. I can also remember that
we watched Winston Churchill's funeral on telly
but it's a memory that has no connectors to
other happenings.
