New Alfa

I'm sure every one agrees that the new Alfas (Brera and 159) look good, and they seem to be a step up in terms of quality. However, the perfomance figures do seem to be to be a tad disapointing. Are you disapointed by the new cars?

Re: New Alfa

dissapointed is too strong a word .though happy enough with the look it somehow leave you feeling it could have been better... it could have been quicker.

Re: New Alfa

im not that keen on the 159 full stop...lost the elegance of the 156..the brera looks great and for me that is my not a great driver so i am sure the power of brera is more than a match for me and probably, if we're honest, most of us

Re: New Alfa

I have to say the Brera is probably one of the best looking cars I've seen. The 159 verges on the 'grown-up', but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I do get a bit fed-up with Megan Sport and the like assuming I'm up for a race every time they see my car (and it's always when the wife and kids are with me ).
It's bad enough they want to race, but to also have the affrontery to drive a Megan Sport in the first place And they call the Multipla ugly

Re: New Alfa

Alfas should always expand the performance horizon, pound for pound, and they could do with a lot less of the latter <g>

Re: New Alfa

I think the 159 and Brera are fantastic looking cars. But when I replaced my 155 with my 156 it was an obvious choice - stunning looks, charasmatic, revvy engine, significantly better perfromance, better handling, chuckability.

When I heard the 159 was going to have 4wd and 68bhp more I thought great - I wasn't expecting it to be as fast as a GTA, but I did think there would be an inprovement over my 156.

I also hoped they would continue to keep the 159 approx £2-3k below the price of the competition i.e. priced at the same level of the Mazda 6 MPS.

Alas, it doesn't seem to be the case. I'm still waiting for a test drive, but the Autocar test shows the Brera to be significantly heavier then what Alfa claim and SLOWER than my 156!!! . The competitive price has now gone (at least for the 3.2Q4) and from what I read the V6 engine, apart from looking nothing special, is no longer special to rev.

I just can't help thinking in their aim to try and compete with Audi etc Alfa have taken their eye of the ball and forgotten why most of their existing cutomers bought Alfa's in the 1st place.

So yes - at the moment I'm disappointed

Re: New Alfa

I think the problem is that the 159 is essentially a 166 replacement and whilst very nice, is not exactly a "sporty" car. The true 156 replacement will be the149 leaving 147 owners with nothing unless a "139" is made.

The Brera is a nice looking car except in side profile. When inside it looks too much like a too conservative for a Sports coupe..
I want the "Pizzaz" put back into Alfa Romeo

Re: New Alfa

Yeh im gutted! Gone the the V6 engine! Gone Is the noise! Gone is the sleek, curvy lines of the cars. Remember the Alfa Romeo footpedels, gone are the alfa romeo embosed foot pedles (and seats i think) Gone and the hugging seats for normal crap ones, even for the back! It'll all be ok when the 8C come along!

Re: New Alfa

Definately, I was looking for Alfa's in the back of EVO magazine's laps stats at the bedford autodrome. Imagine, the V6 GT is only .1 of a second quicker around it than a 125bhp Polo GTi, that's effin embarrasin'

I think the current cars offer the right mix of performance, quality and style.

Quite. We want style but not show-ponies. Give us real horses and lighter weight at a sensible price. Remember what Alfa stood for. Sort out customer service and Alfa could sit back and count their fortune.

Re: New Alfa

The new V6 cars at least have 4WD which should help lap times and so ón... the BHP figures all look pretty good, but they are all too heavy

Re: New Alfa

Yup, they need to be quicker, but not by more power, just by less weight. A real GTA would be good, IE 'Lightened'.
Still love the stlye though and will eventually have one, not sure which yet though depends on the circumstances at the time. Unless the 149 or the rumoured Sud type car turns out to be a real cracker!.
