Has your car ever been keyed?

Possibly should be a rant room thing, but i'm curious of figures. This is coming off my chest as some pathetic young ASBO dodger has added a keyline speed stripe to my mother's brand new car today. Its happened to me before, ironically while being parked outside a police station. so i was just wondering how many people had suffered such vandalism, i'm willing to bet the majority have.

also if you are a multiple victim give us some numbers. (2 for me now)

looking forward to a sunday with my t-cut!(not)

Yes - my brand new BMW 318iS coupe - and right on the bodyline. I suspect jealous work 'mates'. Was never properly repaired either.

After that I keep a VW Caddy van for general use and my 'good' car is reserved for careful use.

For some reason it's always when they're clean and shiny, dirty cars are left alone... maybe they know it really hurts when you've put work into them.

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

My sister had her BMW keyed recently. I managed to polish it out for her using a QUIXX repair kit. Impressive product, I'd recommend it if anyone has a minor scratch to take care of, as long as it is not too deep (i.e. exposed primer).

Yep, the Volvo.
It was about 5 months ago and I'd only had it 5 days.

Pics HERE.

It cost 250 to have it repaired by a mobile dent/chips man and he said he hadn't seen a keying that bad for a long time.

The panels that were repaired are still a little bit dull and lacking in shine like the rest of the car no matter how much Meguairs I daub into it.

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

I've had a few cars keyed, most of the time I just put it down to people jealous of them but so stupid that they react in such a petty small minded way and laugh it off. Not sure what I'd do if I caught someone in the act though....

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

Well, I've voted for the 2nd option, but I'm not too sure if it really was keyed. A few days ago my wife took my GTV to work, and when I got it back I noticed a few scratches neat the boot. It might have been keyed, althoug it might have also been 'handbagged' . Also, theres a scratch near the Alfa heart now too, I think that's probably a stone though.

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

I have had a lot more door dings in municipal and supermarket car parks over the last few years though.

I think it's partly inconsiderate other drivers but also down to fairly narrow parking spaces while all cars are getting wider. Still hacks me off when I'm always careful about other people's paintwork.

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

Exactly, plenty of dings on mine too. And if your car is not a "worthy" car, the offender won't even leave a note. Mine was a brand new 99 Civic DX on the biggest dent I ever got.

Same thing, on a windy day, I come back to my car parked in front of a supermarket, some guy in a red old Panda zooms into the nearby spot, opens his door, wind blows right then, and I get a dent and a red mark on the passenger door... Right in front of me! Guy looks at me, says a very distant "oh sorry". He acted like he considered my 155 an old Italian car, therefore unworthy of anything, so his behavior was okay. Idiot.

Sorry to hear that. In those circumstances there are really only two options:
a. take it in stride as life will go on even with a small dent or
b. beat the crap out of the guy till he begs for mercy.

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

Had my 164 keyed a few years ago. We sacked a guy at work and the three people involved all had our cars repeatedly vandalised over the next few weeks. Mine was keyed and then the following week paint stripper was carefully poured over every panel. Tyres were also slashed but the police felt there was insufficient evidence to prosecute

Now that's really low, sorry to hear that story. Not knowing why you sacked him, it is apparently clear he is the exact type of lowlife scum you wouldn't want working for you anyway-so good call, shame he had to prove you right.

Re: Has your car ever been keyed?

Yep, had mine key'ed 18 months ago, At first I thought it was an accident, but after speaking to a guy who happend to work in the neighborhood told me that the residents didnt want any strangers to park there, they had developed a habit of keying cars unknown to their "hood"
