Shut Up!!!-James Allen (Nr 2)

I watched last weekends Grand Prix, and I don't know if I'm getting old but I found James Allen's commentary even more annoying and pointless then usual.

Murray Walker may have got things wrong, and caused accidents by merely opening his mouth, but at least he was entertaining.

So the question is - should James Allen be made to SHUT UP!!!!

Re: Shut Up!!!-James Allen (Nr 2)

I think he's okay really...he doesn't make it as exciting as Murray Walker, but then no comentator would be able to match Murray's metallic tones. I do think Allen talks drivel sometimes, but then it must be difficult to think of interesting things to say when in some races (like Imola) nothing actually happens.

Re: Shut Up!!!-James Allen (Nr 2)

Althought I cannot tolerate James Allen, I cannot trash him as I'd do no better myself.... However....
What about Mark Blundell alongside, Brundle? He's already 'in the crew' or do we need someone random with little or no racing experience?

Would there be much point in having to racing drivers together though. Really you need one person to do all the talking, and one person to add technical information.

He's not a disaster IMO. I do like listening to Brundle though, always very insightful.

I quite like Allen's delivery and at least he not condescending like Brundle...'you don't want to do it like that........'

Cannot stand the man!

What about Ben Edwards off Motors TV? He gets a bit excited now and then, and doesn't annoy like J Allen.

I don't like the way he always seems to be a bit nasal. It gets irritating but he don't dislike him though.

I honestly think he's fine, though haven't heard his commentary since the early part of the 2005 season.

This same sort of campaign was being run against Murray Walker in the 70's. It takes time to get used to someone new. And he has a tough act to follow apparantly. Myself, I'm not a great Murray Walker fan. But he lasted and became an institution. His enthusiasm got him by.

Re: Shut Up!!!-James Allen (Nr 2)

James Allen doesn't what what he's talking about most of the time. He just prattles on non-sensicly. Not every comentator has to be an ex-Technical Director, but FFS, if you don't know something, just shut-up, instead of inventing things to say.

STOP THE ****!!!!!

Other. I don't watch GPs so I've no idea who he is . Sorry.

However, I can't believe that listening to him could be worse than actually watching the race! Didn't they ban overtaking recently?

BTCC Rules OK.

As long as the Ferraris win, I don't care the least for overtaking

That's just it! He isn't new. He has been commentating since Murray Walker left. He is useless and wouldn't know how to commentate if you handed him a script. If Martin Brundle wasn't there to keep him right and correct him when he invariably gets it wrong, it would be even worse.

I was lucky enough to watch a race when on holiday in Ireland last year. Same pictures but RTE commentators. It was soooo much better than having to listen to that prat.

GET RID!!

Re: Shut Up!!!-James Allen (Nr 2)

I'm just not sure. The example constantly held up for him was, in my view, incredibly flawed And yet was allowed to continue almost ad infinitum until he had been forced down peoples throats to the extent that they started to believe he was good.

The only good point about Murray Walker was his undoubted enthusiasm. James Allen shares that enthusiasm. MW was also constantly rescued by whoever he had sitting by him in the comentary box. I think that once you start making comparisons, the two have far more in common than they have differences.

It will take an awful long time before Allen is accepted because of the act he is following but my contention is that that act was pretty poor anyway and also took many years to be accepted.

And I realise that this may go against the grain with many because Murray Walker has almost been deified and totally exonerated for his many failings.
