Smashing

With so much traffic on the roads nowadays it seems unlikely that we'll get through our motoring lives without having at least 1 accident that involved the insurance companies. Have you had that accident yet?

Re: Smashing

Yep, but not in traffic. Scraped the side of my car and smashed front bumper at a Track day. My own fault entirely. Learned a valuable lesson: "must remember to warm tyres up properly before attempting to attack that curve in 3rd gear"

Good news was that Insurance covered no questions asked. The event was held as a Driving/practice course with qualified instructors, which is covered under my Insurance Policy.

Re: Smashing

Had my 155 stolen about 8 years ago, whilst they repaired it. I wrote of the courtesy car into the back of a new Mercedes estate which went into a Sherpa van which went into a metro coming the other way. No one was hurt luckily. But 2 lots of excess

Still the 155 came back better than new

Re: Smashing

Recently (within 2 years) had an accident while in a que of slow moving traffic approaching some traffic lights.

A girl/woman was coming out of a driveway and didn't see my car which was right in front of hers

She didn't have her insurance details to hand - so I had to phone her the next day - her first remark was "Oh yes - what are you phoning me for...?"

Re: Smashing

Two years ago last January, first day back to work after New Year some plonker locked up and ran into the back of me.

I had been sitting at the junction for a good minute waiting for a gap in the 3 busy lanes of dual carriageway (the East Lancs Rd A580, if you know it). This twonk didn't do that much damage -just the bumpers split on both cars and he nearly pushed me into the path of traffic running at 50mph so I was a surprised to say the least!

He actually then threatened me! I only said "Bloody hell, that's brilliant!" while shaking my head.

To cut a long story short he later made several bizarre contradictory claims which had his insurer threatening to take it to court rather than settle, including the very amusing claim that I rolled back into him (I was at the bottom of a hill !!!)

It took over a year to settle.

I've never hit anyone else though (touch wood).

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Yeah, its amazing how some people never take the blame for their own stupidity - fancy threatening you - must have been a right fruit cake!

Re: Smashing

My neighbour hit my old car (Golf) as I was pulling in to my driveway, she was pulling out of hers.

Also my first 155 was reversed in to by a girl in a Saxo

My Q4 was crashed by a hotel porter in the Hilton Car Park in York town centre - this one really p155ed me off because the insurance people were bastids to deal with and they uttered the words "we should write it off" to the people who were due to do the repair - luckily they didnt in th end!

Re: Smashing

Was unfortunate to be in a motorway accident. Its a miracle no one was injured. Most harm to me was done by the airbag explosion burning me!!

Re: Smashing

Yep, I've had a number of them. My favourite was the woman who pulled away from the bank with a Krooklok (remember those?) still fitted around her brake pedal and steering wheel. So, she couldn't stop and couldn't steer, so slowly drove into the side of me (stationary) and then continued to bounce into a line of parked cars

Such behaviour seems so alien, he wasn't spaced out on drugs at the time was he? You hear a lot about drug driving and the effects that can have on people's critical reasoning. Still, I suppose that wouldn't explain his bizzare behaviour later.

I don't think so. He was a young-ish Asian gentleman in a new-ish Mondeo. And "no", I didn't make any racial reference when I commented on the bump.

He got more aerated when I asked for his documents or some form of ID. As if I was being unreasonable! It got a bit scary TBH. So I used my phone to take a pic of his car reg and him AND he got really uppity! Then he insisted on a pic of me to even it up! Probably so I couldn't get away with taking the blame for his actions!

Well he sounds like a right lemon Jim - not taking responsibility for his own actions and then getting all upitty. He sounds like the kind of person who's head is vacua and runs out of reasoned argument very quickly, resorting to prepubescent 'name' calling as the only way to express himself - being to stupid to realise he merely demonstrates his own inadequacies.

You just never know when you're going to bump into them - or they're going to bump into you - do you???
