How do you listen to music at home?

So how many of us have moved with technology? I honestly cannot remember the last time I put a CD on. Even when I buy a CD it gets ripped to MP3 on the PC and the CD either goes in the car or in the cupboard. I am currently working my way through all 13GB in random, which equates to 6.7 days of music

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

I've yet to catch up with the MP3 generation, which really is unforgivable because IT hard/softwares are my tools of trade

Anyway, I spend much of my leisure time in the kitchen and use a 5.4 sound system. (via remote headset when I'm really cranking it up)

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

I need multiple choice!
Until 6 months ago it was CD player, then CD player broke so it was MP3 on the computer. Then I got a pretty good HiFi system, so it's CD's on that again.
When I move to the new house and have got the positioning of everything sorted out, I'll connect the computer up to the HiFi too, but I think I'll still mostly listen to CD's. The PC connection will be used when I want to be able to leave it running for ages on random or something. For general use, there's not much use spending £750 on a new HiFi set up, and then playing compressed MP3's on it
Because of that last point, I have an interesting decision to make. What bitrate should I set my ripping to?
I want it as high as possible for playing in the home (storage space isn't an issue I have a dedicated 80GB drive for music storage), but at the same time a major point of my MP3 collection is making CD's for the car. The nature of a car stereo means that the lesser bitrate won't be noticeable, and I want to be able to fit as many songs on a CD as possible. At the moment I've settled on 192Kbps, which will give me 10 albums per CD (as opposed to 14 albums on standard 128Kbps) but I'm tempted to go further and use 256Kbps or more.

I borrow my daughter's MP3 player when I can as the sound is amazing.

But around the house and in the car, it's CDs

At home, at work and in the car, I listen to MiniDiscs!! The most flexible and easily expandable format.

I listen to live music - we invite local bands into the front room. Neighbours aren't too impressed, tho'

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

CD's and the radio! I have yet to get onto the mp3 bandwagon, however we do have 3 of those mp3/portable hardrives in the house, but regardless of when I try to put the songs on, they don't save as an mp3 track and the thing won't play them! Very annoying.

However when a CD is it has to LOUD OK!

Being in a detached house helps to

In my study, CDs on my HiFi, as well as some old Vynil (I think it sounds great). In the living room, cds or dvds on the home cinema.
In the car, on rare occasions, iPOD through a Roadtrip , or radio for news, traffic and weather, but normally I listen to the music the engine makes.

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

I bought a little battery powered radio for £9 a few years ago. I use that in the kitchen and the bathroom.

Clock/radio in the bedroom.

MP3s via the PC in the spare room.

CDs via the Hifi downstairs or blasting through the whole house.

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

When I listen, it's CD's in the stereo HiFi (not multi-channel, mind).
While I'm writing this, I got my PC tuned in to NPS Output Web Radio...

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

Normally I hire the band I want to listen to.. they turn up the next day, plug themselves in on the stage and off they go.

One simply doesn't "do" pre-recorded, darling.

To add to what I started my latest is a 1Gb memory stick stuffed in my P910i phone, not the greatest but good for drowning out idiots on the train.

Re: How do you listen to music at home?

MP3 all the way -CDs are for ripping only! Straight out of PC into study and dining room systems, or via Ipod in docking cradles in kitchen and lounge. In car, Ipod into a Dension system.
