Do you use winter tyres?

Audi forums suck ... here's my Q for you:

Simple question; do you use winter tyres, and why?

Re: Do you use winter tyres?

It is said so in the law
We have to use them in December, January and February, but usually it goes to March or even to April

no such law here in the UK (as far as I am aware!), although I think it would be good to introduce IF we ever start having bad winters again.

Andy: You think it's a good idea to introduce a law, yet you vote that you don't see the point?

No. Don't use them.
Although super duper high performance low profile tyres are terrible in the snow and ice, we get it so infrequently it's not worth the hassle of keeping a spare set of wheels and tyres.

Have you got an Audi then Dave?

You wouldn't say that if you'd have actually driven one...

Over here, the winters are so mild, with normally very little snow and ice that at this moment in time, I don't see the point! BUT if we ever did have bad winters then I think it would be a good idea!

Re: Do you use winter tyres?

No, summer tyres will be sufficient!

Don't get me wrong, Ireland can be wet, cold and frosty most winters - actually pretty much anytime of the year is no suprise - but we dont get prolonged harsh periods of snow/ice etc so it is not very common for any motorist to swap over to winter 'wheels'.

Re: Do you use winter tyres?

Voted no, the winters don't seem to bad where I am (famour last words!) at the moment...keeping another set would be a pain but I suppose they'd be useful if we did have bad winters! As Mitch said, low profile wide tyres are CRAP in snow but thanks to the efforts of our local authorities (bless 'em, putting all that salt down!) the snow never lasts too long.
