Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

Is it the cars we dislike or the drivers?

The cars are over rated, over priced and over here. The drivers seem to think they themselves are something special too, just because they think the cars are.

And don't start me on about the new Mini... over rated and over priced also..

Not so keen on the cars. Very well made, sometimes very quick, but a little over-hyped IMHO. The German styling aint my cup of Liebfraumilch...

Really dislike the majority of the drivers. Stereotype? Damn right!

Why is there no "All this I hate BMWs business is c**p" option

Its all getting very tiresome

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

The drivers do mostly seem to be up their own arses.

Personally I'd love either a seventies or early eighties BM of any sort. Was thinking last summer of getting a E21 316 even.

Does the option "Neither" count?

Have to agree with some of the comments, there a universal acknowledgement that people who aspire to bmws are thrusting....err, somewhere

But, more recently I've found some to be quite nice...except for the dangerous git the other week.

Sorry, but my vote goes for "car and drivers"....as a HUGE generalisation of course.

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

im not affraid to say i do like bmw cars

and all that overpriced over rated sh1te would go out of the window if someone handed you the keys and said here you go take her for a spin............................

the way some people go on about them its like they'd rather die than have anything to do with bmw....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

imo its the ignorance of the drivers with a bmw chip on their shoulders that ****es people off the most

well that sums it up.
Some of the higher specced bmw's are quite decent but that's a hell of a lot of money to pay. The lower specced are bought by nuggets just for the badge you can't tar all the drivers with the same brush, some are complete ****** others are thoroughly decent, same as any car, i must say though the one's i've driven have been very boring.

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

I know it's ever so slightly off topic but it is said that when Tony Blair first ran for PM he targeted 'Mondeo Man' - the average guy in the street who has a decent job, house, growing family, etc.

That person no longer exists - he has now become 'BMW Three Series Man' and looks down on Mondeo Man.

...so John Cleese is in the BMW and Ronnie Barker is in the Mondeo. What car is Ronnie Corbett in?

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

I have driven a 330i sport. It was brand spanking new on a W plate as my dad bought it. It was utter rubbish for the money 32,000 IIRC. He kept it for one month and swapped it back (at a loss of 4,000 and BMW's don't depreciate..). He then spent 16,000 on a Fiat Coupe turbo plus and it was in a totally different league to drive, and was just as reliable. I still think they are extremely overated, epecially for the money. You are paying for the badge which no longer has any cachet at all. Unless your name is Derek Trotter.

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

I think the cars themselves are okay.

But then BMW add 5000 to the price tag, start that "Ultimate penis enlarger" cr4p and tell you you can only have one if you're an obnoxious ponce and it just turns me off.

However, the Beemer-boys are becoming "educated". I stared one down the other day and he let my Alfa into the traffic cue in front of him. Maybe they've noticed and now want to be loved.... ??

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

have to disagree chaps, I ran an M3 for 5 years, and it has to be one of the best cars I've run for a long time.
Expensive it true, but you pays the money. They are extremely good cars, build quality is second to none, and the diesels and the M cars are some of the best out there.
Poverty spec cars are OK, I wouldn't buy one of them, but the high spec cars are very good. however saying that I'm not keen on the styling these days, so won't be buying on that basis alone.

If you like your performance cars, try the M3, or the M5. They are simply stunning to drive. Use one of them for a while before knocking the whole range.

These cars like MB are overpriced at the moment I agree, but until buyers decide they don't want to pay that much extra for the parts on the car, then the cost will remain.

However I have to agree with the previous comment, always knocking BMW's and their drivers is becomming quite boring now. How about the 4x4 fraternity (RR, MB and Shogun etc crowd)? I tend to get more bad driving and poor attitudes towards others by drivers/users of those!

I should imagine there is a very big price differential between an M3 and a GTA though?

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

I always liked BMW's - think they are great cars in fact.

Met a lot of morons in traffic driving BMW, but i also met a lot of nice BMW enthusiasts at Track events. Would not be fair to judge all BMW drivers from "fights" in traffic.

I suspect Alfisti and BMW enthusiasts is more alike then Alfisti like to admit to. in any case, most of the BMW enthusiasts i've met really ejnoy driving their car, and care very little about prestige.

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

Give me a Mitsubishi Evo 8 over a M3 any day.. Especially for the price of the M3 you can get a FQ350, complete with active Yaw control and 4wd.. Plus they are very easy to tune for more.

Re: Right Then, Once And For All, This BMW Thing...

What I love about Alfas is that they're great throughout the range. Other than an M3, M5 or other 'top-of-the-range', BMWs are massively overrated IMO. I drove a two year old 330 convertible from Sydney to Byron Bay last September and I wished I was in my own car (which cost about 130,000 AUD less) every inch of the 800km journey.

That said, I'd love an M3. (The old one the new ones look repulsive).

Especially this board

Been cut up by them and bullied by them too. Seen city boys and wannabee seen successful types in family/ friends circles buy them for the prestige purposes alone. BUT never have I ever been influenced about the marque and people that drive them than I have been here. I've found myself being prejudice about the whole thing just because, reading here, my own experiences are further compounded to levels which aren't a true representation of the people or the car

I like the older BMWs... don't like the look of the newer types, agreeing they are over priced for what they are but the same can be said about Audi's Although, I saw a convertable BMW coupe' type today and it looked nice.

Lets keep a level head about it all, huh?
