Help Brera 3.2 vs 147 GTA

Ok guys, here it goes:

I need a new set of wheels for myself. Shall I got for a 147 GTA, second hand relatively soon or wait till summer (which is when I am told it will be ready for delivery here in Japan), pay more and bag myself a 3.2 Brera?

Thoughts, suggestions and the lot very welcome!

Buy a used GTA now then trade it for the brera later - whatever happens youve got to ditch that grandad car your driving now!

Thanks OldSchool. The truck will stay given family requirements but firmly in the wife's capable hands.

Keep them coming!

Re: Brera 3.2 vs 147 GTA

What car would you be trading in for the 147 GTA ?
Maybe work out the depreciation difference for that car over 6 months Vs the 147 GTA.

Personally I would hang on for the Brera though.
I suspect in the real world its better body control will more than make up for the slight lack of pace compared to the raw agression of the 147 GTA.

Actaully I lied, I would be even more patient and hang on for the new GTA, looks like it will be a real rip-snorter!

Cheers,
TB

Re: Brera 3.2 vs 147 GTA

No contest - get the GTA! There are even reportedly still a few new ones floating around at non-Alfa dealers. During the last 6 months they were selling them, the average discount was 500,000 yen (I got 700,000 yen). Used, they ought to be the bargain of the century! I want a Brera too, but this GTA is so enjoyable, I will drive it until the Brera GTA comes out two years from now. You're in Tokyo, so in terms of transmissions, you want the GTA Selespeed rather than the Brera's 3.2 6 speed anyway...

GTA (or GT 3.2)

It will be the last chance to own a new Alfa with the last real Alfa engine

Indeed - As much as I loved BMW straight 6s (owned 4 of them including an M3 over the years) I like the Alfa-produced GTA V-6 even more! Probably the best V-6 ever made. The Brera may look great, but would you rather have a GM engine under the hood or an Alfa produced GTA? Personally I want the Brera too, but won't buy it until (and if) they offer the Maserati-sourced V8 for the GTA version...

Re: Brera 3.2 vs 147 GTA

If I already had a 147 GTA as you do - I think I would happily keep it. If I was starting from scratch I would probably go for the Brera (or the new 159 GTA if patience and finance allowed
(not to mention the wifey ).
The 147 GTA is probably a faster but wilder ride than the Brera, but am sure the Brera would be both much better controlled and more comfortable.

Cheers,
TB

Re: Brera 3.2 vs 147 GTA

Thank you all for the replies so far. I am very tempted by the 147 GTA for some of the reasons highlighted above but the extra 3 or so years of development work on the Brera must surely make it a better drive altogether...

Hmm, did see a gorgeous white GTA the other day though ...

Thanks. I've seen a couple on carsensor with low mileage for JPY 3.5m to 4m. Dunno, it's a tough one. Agreed on the transmission (I used to have a 147 2.0 Sele and found it great in London's traffic).

Buy a Nuvelo 147 GTA, and test drive the Brera when it finally comes out, you might not like it, but you still will have the GTA !!

It has to be the Brera. A new car engineered from a fresh sheet of paper under the watchful eye of ex-BMW director. It's got to be the one to go for.

Got to be the Brera. If not you'll regret it the first time you see one passing on the other side. Go for the exotic one and forget about the GM engine jibes: I hear and read that it has been fully Alfa'd anyway.

Thats way too high for a used GTA - I paid about 3.8 for a new GTA with leather, in dash DVD navi, tinted windows and extended care. If you want, I'll ask around at the 2-3 dealers I know.

Thanks Charlie, would not want to trouble you. I've got one (pretty useless though) in walking distance from home and will have a word on the weekend. By the way, how long did yours take to be delivered or was it in stock?

Cheers.

PS: Poll seems getting pretty even. Keep 'em coming!

Here is a link to a black 147 GTA Selespeed with black leather and 16k on the clock for only 2.980,000. Car Sensor actually lists quite a few right now, though several are near the 4 million mark, which I think is quite overpriced - I would say paying up to about 3.4 million for one in good condition would be more reasonable.

Get the brera. If it performs half as good as it looks then you’re in heaven .

This is what I would do too - especially with so many used GTAs out there right now for very decent prices. Though I too, want to buy a Brera, I know that even the 3.2L version will drive nothing like a GTA - am just hoping that when the Brera GTA version comes out, that it will not be astronimically priced, because that's the upgrade path I am thinking of...

BTW, when will Breras be available in Japan? I didn't think they would be here for quite some time...
