Hmmm Morally Acceptable?

I'm interested to see if there's a silent majority out there and, at the risk of incurring the moderators wrath, I'm going to ask a question:

Is it morally acceptable to take an upskirt picture?

In the interests of Forum friendship I would aks people to answer the poll without making judgements on other people's views.

For my part the answer is no, because I think it is disrespectful, demeening distasteful.

Re: Morally Acceptable?

Sorry mate, but with all the **** flying about I'm wondering (respectfully) if this poll is a good idea as some of us (no finger pointing here) have not really proven we can behave...

Perhaps a wise point.

Fraser has chosen not to make the poll results public.

I was just looking for a general impression, that's all. I'm not even looking for people to post a comment, just to vote.

Re: Morally Acceptable?

As far as I am concerned, everything that could have been said has been said in that other thread. (let that thread die people and the other argumentative thread in GAD, IMHO).

This poll might serve a purpose in at least revealing what is the general consensus on the 'act' depicted in that picture. However, as said, lets not have a heated debate about that here again... please (not to be read as 'an order', but just another members opinion that is bored of all the arguing).

Re: Morally Acceptable?

It's not acceptable.

However, there was nothing wrong with the context in which it was posted in the thread and I found it quite amusing that all the chest-beating self-righteous crusading children of Mary Whitehouse were shown the error of jumping to conclusions when it turned out to be a set-up.

But surely those people were complaining about the unacceptability of taking an upskirt photo? So regardless of whether that was a set-up, they were perfectly correct in their view?

People can only judge on what they see.
To take an extreme example, say someone posted one of the beheading videos from Iraq on here, people complained, but then it turned out to be a fake somehow. Would the complainers attitude therefore be wrong?

True enough and faultless logic. It was more the vehemency with which they said it that I felt was too much. It's not acceptable behaviour, but then it's not as bad as certain forms of sexual harassment.

For all we knew though, that guy could have been pretending to take the shot for a laugh from his mates. I might well do something like that myself. It's not particularly sophisticated humour, but all you're really doing is pointing out to your mates that someone's wearing a particularly short skirt. Taking the shot is another matter entirely.

fraser, you really didn't need to post this thread, the answer you were looking for was in the original thread, this one is already starting to go the same way.

EDIT: Well that was my vain attempt at hijacking this thread such that people voted and didn't necessarily enter into another discussion about it... lets see where this goes.

BTW - I agree with JB.

Re: Morally Acceptable?

Not acceptable at all.
Please note I am not in the least bit religious and don't get offended easily at all (you can see this through any of my other posts not concerning this photo), nor am I a "chest-beating self-righteous crusading child of Mary Whitehouse". It doesn't matter if the picture was a joke set up or not, people responded in a way that said it was perfectly acceptable to take that kind of shot and infringe on someone's personal privacy in such a gross manner.

Re: Morally Acceptable?

i have decided to cast my vote having not taken part in the other threads war of words.........

it is interesting to see how much peoples own principles and opinions differ, from the gutter to holier than thou!

it would be interesting to see how peoples view would change if they werent 'faceless individuals' on a forum

Re: Morally Acceptable?

I have voted No (assuming an unwitting victim ).

Perhaps a more relevent question might be "Is it acceptable to laugh at a picture of a guy getting caught taking an upskirt picture" :-)
I would vote yes to that!

To be honest despite the apparent approving majority of artistic license in the recent threads, I would be quite suprised if the result wasn't no to this completely different question

Cheers,
TB

I answered YES, but on second thoughts I should have voted NO.

But it was damn funny!

No its Fuzzy Bear Logic

A basic test of extreme logic like this (CF beheading/necrophilia examples) is to check the other extreme and see if the axiom actaully makes sense, or whether it might depend on context.

So lets see, is it acceptable to push a custard pie in somebodys face?
Well not generally I guess..
Is it acceptable to laugh at a picture of it?
Of course it is.

Would you laugh at a picture of an old lady cheekily pinching an unsuspecting young business suited mans bottom, or would you be outraged at the sexual assault?

I dare say most of us would prefer that our grannies refrained!
..but perhaps we might be able to laugh at a picture of somebody elses granny doing the same

Cheers,
TB

Re: Morally Acceptable?

I have voted 'no' on the assumption that such a photo were to be taken without the consent of the subject. If it were to be taken with consent, I think that's fair enough, whatever turns you on.

Regarding people's reaction to the photo as posted on AO.com, I think I'm right in saying that it was posted as being 'for real'. To then flame people for being Mary Whitehouses for finding it disgraceful/naff/distasteful/out of order when it is later revealed as being a set up with the consent of the model is smart-ar5e and petty in the extreme. Just my opinion, but I'm entitled to it. And the opinion of those people who made those comments on the basis that the photo was for real is just as valid as when they 1st had that opinion. As is the people's opinions who found it to be 'a bit of a larf'.

We just know where we all stand now is all.

Re: Morally Acceptable?

Fair play

I am quite interested to see the difference though since I have a few " 's" on the line if I am mistaken.

Cheers,
TB
