Re: Beer Or Lager?

It has to be well brewed English bitter for me. However, as i seem to have said in a thread about curry elsewhere, it has to be lager with that gorgeous, throat burning food!

Re: Beer Or Lager?

It's all beer isn't it? Do you mean bitter or lager? I used to be a bitter drinker and still have a fondness for a brew called 'Landlord' by a Keithley brewery called 'Timothy Taylors' . However, most of the time these days i can be found with a glass of Stella in my hand (I suspect it's not the same as the european stuff tho - brewed under license and all that )

Re: Beer Or Lager?

I never drink lager in the UK. The mass produced (Big brewery) tastless Stella, 1664 etc is nasty.

Real Ale is the only thing for me - yum yum

I am soooo sad I'm even a member http://www.camra.org.uk I would rant on and on about the state od the big breweries but I'm too drunk and cannot be bothered

LAGER LAGER LAGER LAGER "Born Slippy".......a youthful anthem to self destruction

I'm a fat old git now though, and prefer a few pints of Old Speckled Hen or Strong Suffolk of a weekend.....the lager I once adored now fills me with gas which wakes me up at 4 am reaching for the Remegel

Re: Beer Or Lager?

Lager is Beer.... D'oh!

Beer used to be a replacement for bread many many moons ago and it used to be composed of malt and herbs brewed in a pot. It was like a soup with no alcohol and was made daily. Recently an ancient egyption recipe for beer was discovered making it one of our oldest drinks. It was a bunch of **** head monks who mixed it with hops for flavour (sweeter) but discovered the hops also preserved it. The brits preferred to brew it without hops (and still do) along with the Irish preferring the darker colour and bitter flavour. It was in the late 1800's however that the English (a London based brewery) brought over a remarkable chap called Luis Pasteur (Penicillin) who showed them how to 'pasteurise' their beer so that it would not go off (they were loosing about a 3rd of all production before then). Modern day Lager has a brewery in Pilsen to thank for its light amber colour (Pilsener). There has been no looking back since!

And then came Homer Simpson and Duff!!!!!!!

Re: Beer Or Lager?

the best lager i have ever had (and i hate it in the uk) was a glass of stella in a small bar in belgium!
the glass was like a champagne glass and the cut the head with a knife still leaving an inch and a half head on!
it was the creamiest smoothest lager i'd ever had ......yum
