How often do you backup you PC?

Yes another IT type poll

How often do you backup all the data that you would need to have should your PC melt etc?

Oh and what method?

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

i copy stuff to an external hard-drive whenever i think i would be gutted to lose it. Every day if i'm working on pics, could be a couple of months if i don't do anything. If i need data i just e-mail it to myself.
What about you Jack?

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

I back up my mobile phone to the PC, then copy a few outlook pst files then backup all my docs/pics/downloads to DVD, everything I want to keep is kept on tha separet partition of the hard disc, so I create an image of it and burn the images to dvd. Looking at the price of External USB2 HDDs now I think I will just get one of those, may also do it for work and throught out the DAT tapes.

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

I have a 200GB external drive for my home backups - important files, pictures and mp3's - use some software to just backup the new stuff about every couple of weeks. Every 6 months just burn it all onto DVD.

For office I use something similar and backup EVERY week or if I'm going on business then before I leave

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

I have in excess of 200GB of data across my hard drives. Backing them up is a pain in the arse so I generally don't bother. I just replace my hard drives reasonably regularly.

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

Where's the "Other" option?

I only back up the PC whenever I remember/have time/can be bothered. It is averaging out to about once a year

I will usually burn my pics to CD anyway (so that I can share them), and will cut my Docs folder to CD whenever I remember to.

I have also taken an image of the o/s partition of each of my PCs, so that I can rebuild the PC easily in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Apart from that, I don't bother......

It doesn't matter what OS you're running if your hard drive fails.

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

I dont keep any data on my OS partition that I want to keep, including my documents and outlook files.

Anything that needs to be stored is in a storage drive. The storage drives are running a Raid 1 array, so if one fails there is an image of it on the other.

I have a bootable recovery image that I have made for my OS partition, but instead of just loading standard windows mine includes my standard set of applications required with every fresh install + SP2 and all available updates, so when I re-install I dont have to bother updating, Mobo, Agp, Windows drivers. Kinda like a Norton recovery without the Norton Took a while to do but its well worth it.

The backup drive is brilliant - simply, connect the USB, press one button on the drive, about 20 seconds later the latest data from my selected folders is backed up

Its from http://www.overclockers.co.uk/

I got the 200Gb version which is 130 delivered.

but they also do a 40Gb for 90 - this one is designed to be portable though so its not as good value for money.

Re: How often do you backup you PC?

Very good. I was toying with sticking a second hard drive in my PC and mirroring but this sounds much easier....and moveable

Thanks...
