Bird or Bloke? Part I

Who says stereotypes don't work?

Introducing "Bird or Bloke?" - AO's attempt to get to the truth about bad driving habits.

There'll be a series of "bad driving" situations. All you have to do is vote for who does it more often. It'll be a pool of our shared experiences/prejudices and at the very least will enlighten you, or allow you to defend yourself against your better half, when they challenge you "Oh yeah.. says who?"

Here we go then:

Tailgaters. Bird or Bloke?

Re: Bird or Bloke? Part I

we do it occasionally - I have taken out a BMW and an Audi by accident in the white trannie.

Girls don't really do tailgating I think - not the way blokes do when they figure you are driving too slowly & they want to force you over.

I mean the want you to change lanes, not force you over as it were

Blokes.

I won't say anything else, as it will probably be misinterpreted as innuendo......

When I first read this thread title I thought it was going to be one of those (possibly not work safe -- I don't know I don't do them or open the links) Female or Shemale quizzes that B3ta.com runs.

Sorry to the mods.

As I said I never actually opened the separate links (and still haven't) so I have no idea far into the realm of bad taste they actually go. If they were over the top and offended anybody, I deeply apologize.

Re: Bird or Bloke? Part I

Women used to aspire to being ladies but in recent years this has become unpopular. As a result, the fairer sex has become as guilty as we mere males of all sorts of bad behaviour, including tailgating.

Sweeping generalisation I know, but behind it lies more than a smidgeon of truth.

Nah, I think blokes do it more than 'birds'. Had this idiot right up up back side on the A1 going past RAF Leeming yesterday in a VW Bora. Crept up to a ton and then left him for dead in a cloud of black smoke after a quick squirt with the washers......

I don't see how this makes you smarter or a better driver.

Re: Bird or Bloke? Part I

I personally don't like to say "I hate boy-racers/old drivers/young drivers/sales reps".

It's driving attitudes I dislike (failing to work with the traffic, failing to recognise that we need to cooperate on the road, failing to plan ahead, drive according to the conditions etc) rather than particular categories of drivers, so I honestly can't say whether men or women are better or worse at any of this. I just don't think it works like that, tbh.

sorry!

Re: Bird or Bloke? Part I

My first reaction was that blokes are worse than birds and thats how I voted.

After taking notice how people have been driving the last few days I would say there's no difference. Far more women and girls on the road with much the same driving habits as men. The few slow, and doddery drivers also seem now to be the older drivers of both sexes.

I guess its a case of "survival of the fittest" and as (middle-aged?) women are now driving more plus there are more new younger women drivers on the road the driving standards are similar to those of the men.

Women can drive just as agressively or stupidly as men this has also been partly due to the increased confindence with driving the 4X4s and people carriers. Plus the fact that at most times of the day women account for about 50% of drivers they now probably feel not to be in the minority.
