Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

Right it depends on road conditions but:

20 to 40 in a 30

40 to 50 in a 40

60 to 70 in a 50

70 to 80 in a 60

90 to 110 on the motorway.

If there's fog/snow/ice then I'll slow down dramatically. However, speed cameras don't allow for driving according to the conditions.

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

In 30's I try to stick religiously to the limit. In 40's I'll push it a bit depending on the road.
Any higher limit than that, and I'll pick what speed I think is safe myself. Generally speaking that won't be so high though.
Habitually I'll sit at about 10mph over the speed limit, enough more that it makes a difference, btu close enough that I won't get pulled for it.

There are exceptions to my 30 rule though. There's a 100 yard stretch of the A34 South of Manchester that's 30, with 50 one side and 60 the other. It's dual carriageway with no pedestrian space next to it. Basically, if you did slow down to 30 on it, you'd likely cause a crash.
There's also a similar, pedestrian seperated, section of dual carriageway in Congleton which I'm confortable doing up to 40 on.

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

Around schools we have a max 20 mph zone, which I try to comply with. Also the 35 mph rural areas, I stick to the limit as reported by the GPS. on other roads, I go 6% above the speedlimit, as that's the tolerance given the courts to the speedcameras... so if you're allowed 100, they will start flashing from 107, and the ticket will say 101...

On speedways, well it's all in the name really...

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

=< speed limit

Not worth the hassle. Besides you don't get there any quicker anyway. Generally in town driving it is not any quicker if I drive like a tool and cut through traffic or sit back and relax.

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

I do try to stick as close to the speed limit as I can (generally no more than about 10% over).....

....but sometimes I get provoked (see my "aggressive driving" thread )

The fastest I have taken it is about 110mph (late, on an empty motorway), but I think the speedo was broken....... officer...... honest.....

Having said that a mate of mine got done for speeding a few months ago and got a $600 fine because it was double demerit day or something, so I can see why people stick to the limit.

I poodle around town and on the motorway I tend to keep up with the traffic which given todays usual kerfuffles meant we all poodled along Still it keeps a reasonable mpg!

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

Whatever I feel comfortable with taking into consideration traffic/weather/general road conditions, if I'm just going into town, or if it's a blast, driving past schools and in residential areas. Depends.

However, a motorway (unmonitored) or good road when deserted is just fair game for some right foot fun !

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

140 to 170++ kmh in the highway (way above speed limit)
But only in Jakarta (no speed camera there, n the cop usually sit tight, unless you're really aggressive).
Here, I try to stick to the speed limit as I don't want to get any mail from the regulator.

I will A verified 199mph. M20, Westbound in the early hrs of A morning, sometime a cpl of yrs ago (just to not give prying eyes too much info)................and it was f*****g great.

Cars in front appear VERY quickly at that speed. Hence why it's not IEO 200.

Re: What speed do you normally travel at?

Normal speed for me is slightly above speed limit by 10-20km/h.

On the 3 lane highway to work which has a 100km/h limit I normally drive at 130-150km/h – no speed cameras and anyway I'm not too interested in top speed.

Big brakes are essential when travelling fast in this country as the truck drivers never use mirrors and just change lane when ever they feel like it and often for no apparent reason.

Fastest I've been is in a friends Corvette – about 290km/h ......very scary !!

Fastest is 250kph in my old M3 (and I was PASSED by a (modified)Toyota family sedan, which blew my mind!), 230kph in my old Sti, and about 210kph in my GTA (don't live near open roads any more).

If there's fog/snow/ice then I'll slow down dramatically. However, speed cameras don't allow for driving according to the conditions.
Some thing similar, though the lower the limit the smaller the margin e.g rarely over 35 in a 30 zone, though once upto 60 and above zones I ignore the limit and drive according to the conditions and the likelyhood of being caught!
