Re: Ikea poll

I don't think so. I've been dragged round Ikea a couple of times, but I don't think we bought anything either time.

I went to IKEA once, and bought nothing. I vowed to never, ever, go back there for as long as I live.

2 bags of frozen swedish meatballs
a thing you fix in the cupboard to hang the vegetable recycyling thing off
and a bean bag that hasn't got any beans in it since a seriously overweight friend threw himself on to it and the seams split and the beans went everywhere

Re: Ikea poll

Well, I'm going to spoil the party coz we bought a computer desk there that was amazing value and does the job perfectly. Also, I inflicted massive damage when bringing the thing home coz it rained (the package was on my roof-rack). IKEA replaced everything free of charge, no questions asked (after a little snigger ), when the situation was explained to them.

I hate the shopping experience there, but the products are better, and often more original, than you'd get at the standard flat-pack outlets. If you want real designer high quality stuff, go somewhere else.

Re: Ikea poll

I agree with Frazer, we used to try to buy high quality furniture and stuff thinking it would last. But the problem is you get bored of it or the Kids Knacker it or both.
I like IKEA, it's good value generally well designed and basicly 'does what it say's on the Tin'...(Box perhaps).
They are a victim of their own success though and the actual shopping experiance is not at all pleasant anymore.

Re: Ikea poll

We've bought a couple of bits of flat-packed furniture from Ikea. Prices are pretty good, but we had to look carefully for quite a while before finding anything we liked.

Generally better than the stuff you get from MFI et al, pretty easy to put together, sturdy once built, no bits missing (but usually some left over).

I'd advise buying on-line though, we spent 3hrs in various queues the last time we went (to the Croydon branch) although the cafe and restaurant are okay and quite reasonably priced.

Re: Ikea poll

If the title of this poll was "Do you enjoy shopping at Ikea?" I predict the result would be a resounding 99% NO the shopping expeience is awful.

Do I have some things from Ikea?.. yes and most of it is good value and OK quality for the price. Kitchen stuff is pretty good, especially if you break as many plates as we do...

What really bug me is if you buy a light fitting... when you need a new bulb you have to go back there. So pop in to buy a bulb and end up buying a load of [email protected] that you do not want whilst there. Actual cost of light bulb: 2..... effectve cost of light bulb: 90...

Lick Re: Ikea poll

I've got loads of things from Ikea over the years - some I still have, many I have moved on. And, to me, that's the beauty of it - it's cheap enough to get use out of for a couple of years until you redecorate/get bored etc, and then chuck it. It's a disposable world, kiddies...

Re. the Ikea experience - well, the trick is to go at seriously off-peak times such as 9pm on a week night. It's deserted, and you've still got an hour to browse in peace. There's no charge for this tip...

Bought a small table for a printer stand, and had enough bits left over to make a full set of cupboards for the bedroom.........nice
