Re: Thiefs

Our puma was broken into at the train station car park. They stole all of the wheels and my cds

The shame of it was that I found the cds thrown into a bush, so much for my taste in music

Re: Thiefs

My cars haven't been broken into but a friends car has...

They first tried to get in from the drivers side door, by bending the door with some tool... when they couldn't get in, they smashed the... wait... WINDSHIELD! ... opened the doors when in, and stole the CD player + all the self recorded CD's (how stupid must you be to stole pirated CD's )
and under the CD's in the glovebox was a 20 that they didn't care to take

My friend wasn't !!!!ed because of the stolen player or the CD's, but because the **** had bended the door!! ... the door was never the same after that

Re: Thiefs

Yup! Twice.

First was in the '70s; had the mini nicked whilst at Uni. Wouldn't have been hard mind, the ignition was so worn you could start it with your toe-nail. They couldn't have been very impressed as they brought it back about two hours later - minus my good Fonz leather jacket! *******s, it cost me a fiver.

Second time was more serious. Wind clock forward to early '90s and Will is proud owner of Merc 190. parked overnight in hotel in Bothwell. Next morning car seriously vandalised in attempt o nick it. Damaged boot lid trying to get in (they failed), smashed side window and forced gear selector back in order to nick ice (successfully). 1200 quids worth damage for a 200 quid head unit. Tough car, very tough car - boot was filled with Golf Clubs (700 quids worth) and early Tosh Laptop.

Re: Thiefs

I wasn't 'broken into' but my car didn't lock correctly one night, and some thief opened the door and took a fold-up chair and a pair of runners.
Left the stereo, CD's and a multimeter on the back seat!

Re: Thiefs

My Mk II Golf GTi was broken into many years ago and the stereo stolen. Since the car was parked in a dark and spooky place I stood around with a geologist's hammer in my hand until the police arrived. Just as well the thieves didn't turn up again or they might have had geologist's hammer shaped dings in their heads

Re: Thiefs

Never had a car broken into or stolen, but I think someone may have had a try once. I found the lock hanging off on an old cavalier I owned, but I can't be sure it didn't just fall out as the spring clip inside had snapped. No real signs of force either.

Re: Thiefs

Yep, had my trabi stolen, while I slept in a tent next to it

I was a poor studie on an exchange program in Leipzig, and just moved out of my landlady's house after she disapproved of my choice of night companion.

So everything I owned, pretty much, was in that Trabi - yep money, passport, glasses, clothes, university work, climbing gear

Anyway, to cut a long story... the car was recovered crashed three months later, full of stolen stuff, none of it mine though. The shame was it was a really good Trabi, I was going to bring it back to the UK and keep it forever - ah well.

I dunno why but the first few times I parked in Leeds (about 10 years ago) I got my car broken into (3 times). Hasn't happened since.

Re: Thiefs

Fortunately never happened to me, especially as i have a terrible habit of forgetting to lock it when i'm at home. I do live in a very safe area in regards to car crime, which is reflected in low insurance costs.

Re: Thiefs

Years ago our first car (a wee Pug 205) got broken into umpteen times. Usual stuff - usually stereo head unit got blagged. Worst insult tho was when my then hubby bought one of those "visible deterent alarms" that sat on the dash with a flashing LED. It was supposed to emit a sound so loud it was impossible for an intruder to enter the car. Would you believe they actually broke into the car and pinched it!!!!

More recently, the windscreen of my punto got smashed by some idiot for no apparent reason in a multi story car park.

No hits on my bella so far - fingers crossed!

Re: Thiefs

One car was stolen twice - a 1962 Sunbeam Rapier Series IIIa. Both times I had it back within 24 hours, probably because it was green (green cars have always given me the best service).

The second time it was stolen, outside St Philips Church, Litherland, Bootle was when future wife and I dropped in to see the vicar about marrying us in 1978. He was out so we were only away from the car for less than five minutes. Time enough for the little blighters to remove the "Krooklok" from the steering wheel and make off with the car. The stole the rubber torch from the boot but left the batteries: odd. Never used a steering lock after that either.

Nope... I try never to park anywhere remotely dodgy, never leave any valuables in the car .. run and oldish banger with a valve radio etc. It's probably just not a Chav-magnet...
