The Shortlist.....

Well the die is almost cast for the Scirocco replacement which goes at the end of Feb

So look at the 3 finalists and give me your thoughts.

Criteria

Used Car
Double Clutch Gearbox
4 seater or 2+2 for the odd occasion
Budget 35k ish (stretching it a bit for the 911 & C63 but just about do-able)
All the usual toys heated seats, xenons, Bluetooth, DAB etc

I'd have a Lotus Evora....not sure if they're in your budget at the moment though....The other possibility is a Maserati....

That Maser is munting He won't have one anyway as too ostentatious for a Harry the B'stard

If Leigh drives an M3 around inner City Leicester he'll be stopped by druggies in search of a deal & Police in equal measure.

I vote the M3. AMG Mercs are undrivable because they have too much power, the Porsche is a great car but the M3 is the best. Its a 'proper' car

Of the three, I will go for the Maserati.

I think the Merc makes a great noise but it struggles to make a case for itself as it will have your arm off as soon as look at you. It makes TVRs seem sensible driving tools.

If it must be one of the other two, I'd have the Porker as, like many petrol heads, I've always had that guilty desire of wanting one despite knowing the baggage associated with the badge. I never grew up desiring a BMW which has even more unpleasant connotations. It's a worthy car but it is just a super souped up rep mobile loved by drug dealers at the end of the day.......sorry.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Jan 2019 New Giulia Veloce Misano Blue
2008-15 New 159Ti experience: overwhelmingly positive. Reliable and fun over nearly 100k.
2015-18 147 1.6TS runaround
6/9/12 - 15 New Mito 135MA Distinctive - 100% reliable 37k

Surely you can live without all that double clutch DAB blutooth xenon nonsense. Pretty sure the clutch in this will be heavy enough for two.

As to why; it's got a 7 litre V8, it's got genuine motorsport pedigree, it's black, it's got a red interior and I like it quite a lot.

Double clutch gearboxes are really good but only when they work properly. Alfas TCT is nice too but is not perfect

Well said that man, although I wouldn't feel guilty about wanting the Porsche - in many ways its the last proper sports car (as opposed to a supercar) by which I mean its very fast but still small enough to be hustled down narrow country A and B roads
