For me personally, whenever I think about a hot hatch, I automatically think of the Peugeot 205 GTi but I have no idea why!

I would agree.

However, shouldn't a Hot Hatch be front-wheel drive?

SAAB 900 Carlsson, or

99 Turbo.

'cos it was just about the best all round iconic design of the 80's!

Though that didn't stop me voting "other" for....

Sud

or

Visa GTi

Golf GTi. Others may have been better in one way or another but it was the first and as an overall package it was the best.

It has to be said that Ford's sportt cars did always look the part, even if they were mediocre technically.

Golf Gti here. It was the one that started it all. They still feel good now even though they have been universally panned by critics and people who have never driven them.
