Re: Olive oil...

Pasi I was always thinking of posting a topic up just like this

Think it would last untill the engine got to normal 90 degree temp then all kaos would break so 5 mins tops.

But perhaps someone brave enough here could try

Re: Olive oil...

Sorry Pasi, are we talking about Exrta Virgin olive oil, or just your standard cooking grade olive oil?

Re: Olive oil...

My money's on "less than a minute"
Olive oil and high temperature don't match.. plus, i think olive oil has the wrong viscosity..

Re: Olive oil...

My 1st 164 ran perfectly well on mayonnaise for lube & cafe latte for coolant for 6 months.

(Really should have spotted that before I bought it , but it had been cleaned up).

How long it was like that before I bought it, who knows?

Would it cure my current headgasket failure?

Re: Olive oil...

I think that as long as it has some form of lubrication it will run for quite a while.

Re: Olive oil...

I like to use olive oil over other cooking oils while... cooking...

I can't quite see the olive oil holding it's structure under preasure and heat...

I thought Anfortas had gone out to test it for us and he's been gone well over an hour now. Looks like Cheradnine, yourself and I were right

Re: Olive oil...

Not sure about using it as a lubricant, but I wonder how far you could get using it as a fuel for a diesel engine.....?

Someone in Italy use oel of special vegetal oil for diesel fuel.

In Germany I've seen a special Biodiesel - 30% vegetal - 70% diesel.
The cost is about 0.85 Euro
But I've never tried

I think must have a motor tested for this fuel or you proceed to your risk

Re: Olive oil...

I put 10 mins down and then I remembered, I've actualy done this before but with lamberetta LI 150.
It ran all Summer long and as far as I know it was still running when the cops confiscated it!
I'm going back to the early 70's. Me and my pals had bought it for 10 bob (That's ten Shillings or 50p to you uneducated mincers) and all our pocket money was spent on buying petrol for it. We ran it on the old aerodrome where we lived (three of us on it at once) and we couldn't even afford a new gear cable so it took two of us to change gear, one to pull in the clutch and one to lean down and change gear at the back.
We used to fill it with olive oil I knicked from the larder - Mum being Italian we used to get it by the can- It all seemed to work ok apart from iron filings that used to come out when it was drained off!!
in the end we got too ambitious and started to take on the roads and three on a scooter heading for the beach was a bit conspicuous - the cops nabbed us, gave us a right roasting (no pun intended) and nicked the bike.
