Did think of that but John Terry, Johnson and Joe Hart played well.

Rooney, without question. Played pretty badly when he played.......and missed 2 games due to being an idiot.

rooney. other than scoring a simple tap-in, he did absolutely nothing in the 2 games he played. poor touch, and just looked fat, slow & lumbering

dunno why someone voted for johnson - he was one of our best players all tournament

He wasn't as good as I'd been led to believe. Put forward
as a possible captain by some I'm glad he wasn't.

I know you changed your point of view. You were not
the only one to suggest it and hindsight is an exacting
science But he was poor

usually like?

Rooney was clearly off the pace. To me me he looked like he'd been at one of Ricky Hatton's training camps. Young was also out of sorts but I'm not sure he's that good anyway.

Milner was my biggest disappointment. I love the lad for his attitude (doesn't drink, no late nights, very professional, realises how lucky he is), work rate and versatility but it just wasn't happening for him.

I wondered though, keithyboy, that Milner might have benefited from us sticking with the original set up (i.e. pre-rooney)

Maybe.

I suspect that the prospect of leaving Rooney out, provided he can walk, is just too much for an England manager to bear.

21 votes so far

The votes for Johnson and Cole can pretty much be written off as "spoilt papers".

That leaves 4 for Milner, 4 for Rooney, 11 for Ashley Young.

I'm not sure that Young was THAT bad - he was weak and anonymous. Perhaps he froze at the big occasion?

i thought ashley young actually played ok in the group matches, it was only in the italy game that he turned a bit cack

joe hart was, as expected, very good, but i would have to question his distribution. very good shot-stopper & at set pieces, but poor at delivering the ball out - just seemed to want to stick a size 12 through everything and lump it up field (straight to an italian player)

Completely agree. I don't think Roy is a fool either way.

I kept boring the missus with that point....and reminding her of what Cloughie used to say about the ball being the 12th man.....he's quicker than any of you, and he never gets tired.
