Oh cruel fate....

I've had a little trouble with the fan radiator on my 164 not working, so it's over heated a few times. Finally rigged a switch, but...

Last week, I checked the coolant to discover there was a couple of litres missing, with no obvious leaks.
Checked the oil car & had a few spots of mayonaise under there - but since most of my drivings in town, that's not so unusual.
Sunday I drove to nottingham & back - should have cleared any condensation from the oil, so checked the oil cap today & had a noticeable amount of mayonaise

So, I'm guessing the head gasket has failed

Since the car's a '94 V6 Super (cloth seats, no AC) , engine also needs it's mounts changing, got hit last year so car is repaired Cat C writeoff , I'm thinking the car's worth £500-600 max.
& I don't yet know what the penalty for my speeding ticket will be - 97 in 70 limit so could be bad for the insurance

So I'm taking suggestions on what I do with it.

Hmmm......I wonder if a head gasket has failed? You don't mention any overheating or coolant loss on your trip to Nottingham; that does suggest that the car's running OK. I'd suggest a compression test.

Re: Oh cruel fate....

I've been keeping a close eye on the coolant now & it had lost a little - no more than half a litre.

The mayonnaise makes me think its the gasket, though I'm surprised there's no oil in the coolant - my 1st 164 had a failed gasket when I bought it & developed thick n sticky layers of grey 'mayonnaise' in the header tank.
Hopefully, the lack of oil in coolant means this failure is only small at the minute. Though I'd rather have the oil in there than water in the oil
