I've had a few cars in my time... So I want to know which of them you like the best..... Argh I have had over 25 and I am restricted to 10 ... bummer well, i'll pick the more interesting ones then ... The ones missing from the list are

Austin 1100
Triumph 1300GT (Front wheel drive)
Triumph Spitfire
Triumph Herald Estate
Citroen Dyane
Hillman Avenger
Morris Ital
Mini 1000
Peugeot 104

Re: Which of my old cars is the best?

The Monte Carlo was mint, I loved that car... should never have sold it.. LSL 373X ... where are you now? Some man who lived in Worthing bought it, it was red (natuurlijk) with the canvas roof...

The Innocenti Mini combined the worst elements of English engineering and Italian electrics ... a bloody nightmare! But it looked cool.

The 155 was the most reliable I used to change cars every 9 months or so, but I kept that one ofr 8 years... otherwise I'd be up around 35 cars by now!!

Thumbs Up Re: Which of my old cars is the best?

The Montecarlo is a car I would have liked to have owned a few years ago, never got round to buying one as I spent all my time fixing Alfa Sprints

Maxi's
A mate of mine has just bought one off ebay for £250 and its near enough mint!,we chipped in and got him a cloth cap and some driving gloves which he proudly displays on the dashboard
The lads only 31 too........apparently he wanted it for a laugh

Re: Which of my old cars is the best?

Two votes for the Maxi! ...

Well it was a lot better than the press claimed... but the gearchange was unbelievably bad... if you could change gear in that car anything afterward was a breeze...

I bought that car with a broken gearbox ... no 4th gear... Bought a working one from a scrap yard, replaced it but in those days ( I was 18) I had no torque wrench... and the Haynes manual said torque on the flywheel to something like 150LbSqIn ... anyway ... so I guessed it ... a few days later doing something like 80mph the flywheel came off.... oops expensive lesson learned!! The car was never quite the same afterwards ... Fantasic amount of room inside... The most disapointing car I've driven recently? The new Mini ... big on the outside nae room at all inside!... the complete opposite of the real Mini!

No it wasn't. Quite possibly the 2nd worst car I have ever driven ( the worst was a Lada). My parents had a "T" reg from new and it burnt out 3 clutches in 10,000 miles. I couldn't bring the clutch up to its bite point without angling my leg to the left as there wasn't enough room ounder the steering wheel.

Re: Which of my old cars is the best?

NSJ in defense of the poor old Maxi at least the clutch change job was the most simple ever. As far as best is concerned , it depends what you use it for.As it was your parents car you probably never let the car demonstrate its best point. The back seats folded flat to make a virtual double bed.....

Which Beta was it?
I voted Beta assuming it was the coupe.
If it was the sedan then

Didn't Lancia try to buy back all the saloons due to bean can eastern bloc steel corrosion. HPE betas were very cool in their day.

Re: Which of my old cars is the best?

Mini Innocenti Cooper hands down, rare as rocking horse manure and scarily quick (for an ickle car).

0-60 wasn't much but the 0-40ish was scarily rapid.

the words 'Austin maxi' still make my blood run cold. My dad had one for about 8 years when I was a kid, and it was despicable on a cellular level, even down to the baby **** yellow paint, and brown plastic (not even vinyl) interior. the utter wrongness of it was quite remarkable. I would have honestly been happier in a Lada. I was pleased that I walked to school, I used to be so ashamed to be seen in the maxi.

British cars at their very very worst, and must be one of the worst cars in the world?

it looked wrong, sounded wrong, was noisy uncomfortable and hideous, with a nasty 5 speed gearbox that could never select second. RXD 365L i really really hope you suffered a horrible death, and no part of you was ever recycled so you cant taint anything else.

*shudder*

Be judged for the man you are, and the actions of your life, not the book you read or the statue you pray to.......

Never hold a grudge, its a sign of a small, petty person.

As (possibly) the only other former Bertone Mini owner (rhd De Tomaso version with blue denim interior) I had to vote for it!

Great to look at and throw into roundabouts at impossible speeds.
