Italian for your birthday or an occasion, but Indian just coz it's a Saturday and you'll want to burn your mouth.

well i ended up ignoring the lot of you and went for an italian. main reason being there's a nice one within walking distance (jim - carmelo's in tottington - know it?) so we could both get stuck into a bit of vino and a few peronis. maaaaaaarvelous

signore carmelo always gives me a good table too cos he knows i'm an alfa man, and i also pretend i'm interested in his ducati

Yes, been in Carmelo's a couple or three times over the years. Hope you enjoyed it. My limited experience was a bit variable tbh.

I thought the days were over where provincial italian restauranteurs would "save a de best a table" for speciale customers.

Does Al live in a 70's sitcom?

no, but signore carmelo does - still thinks he's a proper ladies' man even though he must be pushing 60

I think that would be a brilliant way to go on - 60 odd yr old provincial Italian restaurant owner (probably fake accent and from Wigan). Lovely.
