Probably about 2 minutes I'd say, and I like Tetley Strong bags, so a couple of minutes is perfect.

I couldn't leave mine for 6 minutes, not in this house in the winter, it'd be stone cold in that time

The train :(

I've gone for the introduce the bag to the water option - I don't like it strong at all and I add quite a lot of milk too.

There was a program on TV last week, to get all the flavours and anti oxidants out of the leafs, you should leave the bag for 7 min. Luckily I like my tea strong! unfortunately it is not as hot

No more than a minute for me and i like my tea strong. the worst mistake people make is putting the milk in while the bag is still in the cup, totally ruins the taste for me.

However, at work we have these silly bags with string attached, so i leave that in my cup indefinately.

Once you get used to the idea that it is "work tea" and might as well be a totally different drink, you kind of get used to it.

In like that with the work coffee (don't do tea)

Now, hubby says that he likes a six minute bag.... But yet says I sometimes 'stew' his tea

WTF?!? Weird specific man

Can't say I can tell the difference. Milk+water+tea tastes the same to me in any order of construction

cold milk in the hot water lowers the temperature considerably, and the flavours mingle better when it is hot.

Just my opinion, but i drink at least 20 cups of the stuff a day and i can tell if someone has put milk on top of the tea bag.

To be fair, he likes the spoon to stand on it's own, and very little milk on top of the bag. His tea has to be strong, AND a certain colour. By leaving the bag in when you milk you can continue to brew to the correct colour

I know, he's a bit odd, bless old boot

Hmm, this is a quandary I like my tea strong so I would leave it stewing/mashing/brewing for at least 4 - 5 minutes usually, but if I'm in a hurry I stir the pot after I put the water in until it's really strong

Easy one this....i simply use the magnetic shark bottle opener on my fridge to get access to cold beer.

Refreshed is the way that i feel and i have saved myself valuable sitting in front of the telly time instead of waiting for water to boil and a permiable bag full leaves to give up its caffeine and taste.

Interesting...

...as we never drink tea ourselves and rearly make it for visitors we have no idea of how long we should brew it for

Your poll shows that we should leave it for 2 mins as this is what most others do

Thanks for the lesson

You should always ask how they take their tea. My nan waves the teabag at the cup and reuses it about 100 times, whereas I can almost stand my teaspoon up in my cup! Everyone is different

Yes, we do usually ask them or sometimes even get them to help make it just the way they like it, kitchen chat is always far more relaxed for some reason

Nice and strong for me, so around 5 to 10 mins.

Yorkshire tea is my favorite.
