"The Iron Lady"

Let me know if you are going to ever, EVER watch this ridiculous and one-sided, romanticised and hideously insincere film.

And I will subsequently take steps.

When it comes on terrestrial tv I might have it on with the sound down whilst listening to "Tramp The Dirt Down" by Elvis Costello, "Stand Down Margaret" by The Beat etc.

I would prefer to watch people eating kangaroo balls on Celebrity Love Jungle whilst sticking pins in my eyes.

Is Tom Cruise playing the main character?

I saw the trailers for this Film in the Cinema recently. Meryl Streep looked and sounded VERY much like Margaret Thatcher, I must say. Doesn't mean I am EVER going to see this one though !!!!!......

Extreme admiration and appreciation for the Infantry, Parachute Regiment, R.A., Royal Marines, the RN,RAF, Merchant Navy Support Vessels Etc. Etc. who performed so well down in the South Atlantic during her reign, so if that's included on celluloid then maybe I'll consider watching it?

Forget the rest of that period though, in fact it is just a dream in the mists of time, apart from that factor I have mentioned. So it's an 'other' I guess for me?

I wouldn't necessarily watch any film about any politician... although the
Profumo Affair read like a Bond novel. And the ladies were very attractive.

Your trailer wont sell many seats SiF.... are you biased

Perhaps a film with Gordon B. and Prescott would be more suited to
a testosterone filled male audience

or maybe we could suffer an hour of two of Harold Wilson screwing the country

[not that I'm looking for a balance ]

John Profumo Eh' now that would be a tasty film for the likes of myself to see! Reading about him and his escapades in The Screws of the World made for some Sunday leisurely reading in BFPO30 after listening to Family Favourites of course on BFB Germany.

Now on a more sombre note an old pal of mine who was part of the honour guard for J.P.'s visited to the regiment,( before the interesting stuff about J.P. was laid bare,) passed on to the Green Fields just a couple of months ago, and I do wonder if he'll meet him again wherever? Bet he'll not present arms for him this time if he ever does?

I assume you've seen it SiF, sicne you know the content, and exactly how biased it is?

Is it better to look at something which challenges your beliefs - in an attempt to give yourself a fully rounded set of information - or to ignore them as wrong thinking?

And is it possible to watch them and take in their points for consideration, or does strong belief of your own mean that your position will be so entrenched that you will learn nothing, and paint every point made black?

Personally, I won't be watching it because it holds no real interest for me.

That said, I have a similar attitude to listening to songs by boy bands, and I'm sure some of them are acceptable.

That new airport on St Helena would help us fly Eurofighters over the Falklands (our oil and fisheries) if needed?

Hmmm but she did sell off everything that wasn't nailed down
squander all the oil revenue and set in motion the deregulation
that enabled the banks to **** everyone over legally....

Just like the Gold reserves, student fees, even more deregulation of the banks (softly softly approach was the brown/blair philosophy) ... but at least she didn't rack up a great big overdraft in the "good" years!!!

Blair is a better actor than Streep.

And the Americans had satellite images of the Argentinian build up before they invaded the Falklands not some dreamt up Dodgy Dossier.

I seem to remember a thread about Thatcher having a state funeral. .......Very messy. We ended up with more casualties than the war the "she won".
