I don't think the single currency has much to do with stopping wars. Look at the genocide in the former Yugoslavia in the mid 90s, did they have different currencies during or before that unpleasantness?
The Dollar is used all over the world by all sorts of gun toting, murdereous crooks and factions with a cause. Them all using the dollar doesn't stop them killing each other. All those drug smuggling, extortion racket Mexicans leaving the heads of kids on spikes use the Dollar don't they?
The single currency is a political pet project that they bent the rules to achieve. It's like pretending that ropey used car you've just bought and had the MoT done at some garage 30 miles away that's known for being a bit lax on standards is probably all OK and not concern yourself as you and your family whizz down the M-way at 80 mph in it.
They were on about Iceland joining it last week on the World Service. Isn't their economy in recovery? Do they want to share their fishing grounds? 80% of their trade is fish?
It's a political pet project. Look at the vote in Eire. 'Whoops, you voted the wrong way there, try again and see if you can get it right next time'.
Two things from the Today programme earlier. One was when they were talking about the Tory conference and someone said 'We get all these regulations from Europe and then here in the UK we copperbottom the things and make them stricter.' The other was a Greek politician saying they're not cutting hard enough of quick enough saying that rather than making Civil Servants redundant they're getting towards the target by making the ones that would be retiring anyway retire a few months early.
I've just put R4 on for PM, it's the end of the religious discussion show. They're on about Ireland and the Catholic church and the Pope and Vatican have less influence in Ireland and women having more of a say in the Catholic church in Ireland.
They're on about talking to the Hakani network in Pakistan to talk and be at the table for the withdrawal or peace process in Afghanistan. Seems they could be just making mayhem as there's a seat at the table and they need to ensure they get their cut.
So Ireland is seeking to reduce the influence or control of the Catholic church, gun toting thugs that were our hired hands to attack the Russians in Afghanistan need to be talked to so we can extricate ourselves from Afghanistan and yet we give so much control to a small group of people whose hobby is politics in Brussels?
Democracy is so important for Johnny Foreigner everywhere else in the world and we have little say in what happens here handing it over to a load of hobbyist politicians in Brussels?
Politicians? They're not all that are they?
How many more examples do we need before we realise they're just clowns in suits and motorcades?
Brown signed us up to the Lisbon Treaty without a vote, and the coalition won't give us a vote on it now. Where's the democracy in that?
