Beautiful shape, just not as beautiful as a 159.

Bristol came a close second for me... The Lagonda and the Merc shouldn't really be anywhere near this list (not that they are the worst looking cars ever, but I do struggle with the Lagonda beyond wanting it in a game of Top Trumps... There are better looking 4-door Astons out there.

There are only two other official 4 door Astons, aren't there? Both called the Rapide - one is in this competition, and the other was poo-pooed by keithyboy when I suggested it.

Undoubtedly there are 4 door versions of other Astons out there though - Newport Pagnell would do anything to a car which the owner wanted and could afford, so there are even estate versions. But they aren't 'official' models.

It was the Rapide I was thinking most about... I can't see it anywhere yet...? Just realised there will be more groups though?

There was no poo-poo, I merely said words to the effect of it's not really a 4-door saloon, it's a stretched coupe that they put a couple of extra doors on. It's still on the list.

159 can only ever be a not-as-good 4 door copy of the Brera.

I like the SD1 but on the basis that it's more than a little "hatchbacky" I'm gonna stay loyal and go 159, but only because Fred had a 7 series so I can't pick that

Well that's a relief, because I poo-pooed the poo-poo and I've been worried ever since.

Incidentally, would you like me to remove "(the real one)" from the title now the other one has been deleted. It might make people think that group 1 is not applicable.

The train :(

There are two Alfas. I went with the 159.

I was going to vote for the Bristol but it's got that horrible spot right between its eyes, which detracts from the rest of the car, so that was a no.
As for the rest, Mercedes do not have attractive styling, the Lagonda is horrible in an 80s "fashion", the SD1 is a bit of a shed, the BMW is a no and the Jaaag is not a Mark II, so that goes out.

The Merc is very much a Marmite car.

What the lardy arse Brera? Oh yes I think you are right the 159 got a decent arris so they must have thought after penning the Brera they could improve on it with the saloon and Spider with quite normal backsides

Schoolboy error, should have put the Alfas in a group of their own. Two in a group splits the vote.

The 7 series is quite handsome and a bit restrained for a BMW but not beautiful.

The Lagonda and that Mercedes Carapace are borderline ugly, so they fall even before I question the Bristol. Noted the picture is a fuzzy (soft focus? ) rear end shot because it's front is as foul as anything hit by the Bristol's designers infamous ugly stick.

SD1s have the cachet of that perceived Daytona connection but really they look a bit humdrum in this context.

For me it comes down to the XJ6 and the 159. Before looking at the pictures I was sure I'd vote Jaaag, and maybe the photo used isn't the most flattering, but the 159 is a better looking motor. OK, I had one and loved it so I am a bit biased. It can't win outright but just look at it. Even in that naff silver it looks good. Who but Alfa would make such an expensive and complicated triple lamp and split grille arrangement on a modern fleet targeted car (as a local pollster once said of mine)?
