the 80's

It seems that the 80's retro scene is now in vogue. Now I was a kid in the 80's (born in 1980) so i missed much oif the music and fashion. In my humble opinion, that's a good thing. Fella;s with box cuts (or the 'flat top') Yuppies with pony tails and filofaxes. 'Mobile' phones the size of a small vehicle. Jean Jackets, legwarmers, huge clocks worn around the neck? WTF was that about?

And lets not start on the electro-crap music of the decade, or the new romantics

So are you a fan of the 80's? or do you hate them with the same vitriol that I do?

Re: the 80's

In the same boat as you HST, was born '79 so the 80's for me was primary school years. Though I remember some of the bad fashion and hair from my sister who is 10 years older

I think I would chose the 80's over the 90's though, can't really think that the 90's were that exciting.

Agree with pud though, most of the music I listen to is from metal/rock bands of the 80's

Try driving slow when you've got something like 'Same Old Situation' blaring through the speakers! Sure its cheese in its worst form, but those tunes have something about them most modern music just doesn't match.

I partially agree about the Music, Iron Maiden are my all time fave and, and they're the epitome oof 80's metal/rock, but for every great band there were a dozen Joe Dolci's

Sorry, I have to go for the sixties with all that free love sort of thing. Hang on, it never did make it up to Barnsley !

The 80's was kids, mortgage and career, no time or energy left for much of 'owt else !

The 80s were cool, Mass unemployment, strikes, riots, Margaret Thatcher, the end of the Coal steel and shipbuilding industries and the start of the revolution of greed, Good times indeed......oh and the music and clothes were naff too .

Eighties for the greedies and we're still seeing the damage Thatcher did in terms of society at large.

Can't criticise on the basis of mobile phones though - big as they were - before that there weren't any.

Fear of the dark made its way into the GTA's cd player, it's the loudest I have ever had it up The bose definitely deals with metal better than this modern rubbish

Re: the 80's

Nice and peaceful in the '70's, prowling around in the dark with all those power cuts.: The 12v Battery System in the house was a bit of a bummer though!: The rich folks went out and bought generators, but I only had a couple of old acid batteries linked up. Wartime shoulder to shoulder spirit, and the burglars had a great time.

Re: the 80's

The 80's were a bit before my time ( I was born in 1977). The 90's are more my period.

The things I think about when someone mentions the 80's are Maggie Thatcher, big hair, and dodgy pop tunes.

Re: the 80's

I left school and started work in the 80s. I have pictures of me from then that quite frankly make me laugh but I had a great time at the time.

And some of the music was rough, I agree. But what about Blondie, Power Station, New Order, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet.....
