Radiohead

Where do you all stand regarding Radiohead?

I admit to not ever listening to them really - I would probably recognise a couple - Creep is probably the main one, but other than that I'd be at a loss. But listening to them at Glastonbury I really wished I hadn't bothered, personally I found it to be very pretentious and depressing - it was just a mish mash of nonsense noise, I couldnt see any genius at all.

Found this online too, very well written and pretty damn viscious.

Radiohead Sucks

I get that some people will like them very much. Can you explain it without resorting to the usual garbage of "you dont get it"

Is it because of the "Oooooh Je-re-my Cor-byn" chants, Gladys?

I am an 80's fan boy due to my age but I have very diverse tastes in music as subjected to all sorts in the car with my teenage son in charge of the tunes.
I have tried many times to like Radiohead and sat through Glastonbury performance yesterday. Funny enough I said to my wife last night "That was the biggest load of sh.t I have ever seen at Glastonbury let alone headlining.
Depressing, droning noise and not even talented live musicians.

I've got their greatest hits album and there's a few good ones on there but also some garbage, I don't think I'd want to go seem them play live.

The Darkness also do a much better job of Street Spirit.

I liked the first 3 albums, especially the bends.

OK computer was good, but after that there are only a couple of song they have done which I actually "got".

Another option for "After OK computer" needed.

The feeling you get when listening to music can't be quantified therefore it's pointless trying to explain it. You don't like it so move on.

I'm not a fan boy, I struggle with some of their music. But at the same time some of their songs are hauntingly incredible.

I'm with Symon, I've quite a few of their albums, some bought in sales, only "OK Computer" does anything for me.

Slightly pretentious tosh most of it, the route Muse are presently taking.

Other.

I was never a fan if I'm honest. I gave up on their Glastonbury appearance and went to bed. However, Mrs K thought it excellent and transferred her Radiohead CDs from the shelf to the car to have another listen.

It's a very subjective thing and I'm sure that Radiohead fans would hate some of the things I listen to. I tend to think that the more bands there are making their own music instead of being music industry muppet/puppet types the better, even if I don't like it.

Muse do sound like a cross between U2 and Radiohead IMO.

Other than that I like them a lot.

I was a committed Indie kid as I was a teenager in the 90's, but don't like much recent stuff in that Genre and have instead turned to Hard Rock and Heavy metal.

I love every single track on the Bends.

Awesome album - I'd have it on my top 10 list of Albums.

Creep is catchy - a lot of their other stuff I can take or leave.

But The Bends.... Oh My Word! A masterful album. Up there with All Mod Cons, Nevermind, Damn The Torpedoes and The River as pieces of pure art.

I have one album, the Bends.

I like Fake Plastic Trees and High and Dry.

I often enjoy a Radiohead track in isolation, or played among a variety of other stuff in a playlist or on the radio, but I couldn't listen to a whole album or an entire live set, life's too short.

Whilst I appreciate that 'they are an acquired taste', I think they are absolute genius!

I only get to listen in my car or at home when the Mrs is out - she cannot stand the depressing, wailing, 'slit-wrist rubbish' (she likes girls aloud and the saturdays etc).

Don't get me wrong, I don't play it all the time and have to be in the mood - but I do go through phases where all i listen to is radio 4 and radiohead (or radio 4 and LCD Soundsystem)!

The King of Limbs is one of my favourite albums, few good tracks on Moon Shaped Pool, but love some of the old stuff too.

They were actually commissioned to do the theme tune for the last bond film, but got ditched last minute for sam smith - think their version is much better...

Not for everyone, but each to their own.

Richard, Richard, Richard, that was awful.

Sam Smiths song wasn't my favourite but god that was sooooo bad.

If I was on anti depressants I'd up my dose after listening to that.

Just, Creep, Everything in it's right place, planet telex, climbing up the walls (zero 7 mix) are the only tracks I'm a fan of, the rest is a little 'meh'.
I remember 'Everything in it's right place' from the filum Vanilla sky, really set the scene and mood well. Climbing up the walls zero 7 mix because it's trip hoppy and I have a soft spot for that.

For some reason I always considered them a 'good' band, almost the personification of indie, but having just re-listened to their greatest hits album, OP has a point, a lot of their stuff is very subjectively mediocre indeed.

I'd agree with that, it was terrible - the Drums and Strings were all over the place and the vocals were more irritating than anything else.

LOL - I know what you mean - and it is intended (they're not just ***** musicians)...

I know I'm not going to change anyone's mind (not trying to) - but I think they're awesome.

Radiohead are excellent musicians, but often they do a great impression of people who are not great musicians.

It is all an attempt to be different and create their own sound.

They could just follow the mainstream or copy riffs and licks from other well known bands but that just wouldn't be them.
