The Midsummers Night Run
June 18th and 19th
Start: Ardnamurchan @ 22:22
Finish: Boddam @ 04:10

Watch the sun setting at the most westerly mainland point in Scotland at Ardnamurchan, then drive across Scotland to watch it rise on the east of Scotland at Boddam, one of the most easterly accessible points.

The distance is about 231 miles and you have 5 hours and 48 minutes between sunset and sunrise on some of the best driving roads in Britain, that will be totally deserted at the time of the run.

Due to the northerly location of this run and the time of year, you won't be driving in total darkness as it doesn't get fully dark during the night.

There is no entry fee for this run, simply turn up and follow the roadbook which will be available to download closer to the event.

The start is at the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan but we'll be having a meal at the Sonachan Hotel about 3 miles short of Ardnamurchan prior to the run. If you would like to join us there from 19:00 that would be great. For those not wanting a meal we will meet up at the start at around 21:30. However, it will be a long night on an empty stomach

This is not a race or competitive timed event. Neither is it a trial or pacemaking event.

You can drive at your own speed after watching the sun set with the prospect of watching the sunrise the following morning, which is part of the challenge.

Just a gentle bump for this one as it is only a few weeks away folks. Jim has put a fair bit of work into this, so it'd be great to see that rewarded with a good turn out.
Cheers

What an epic idea. Shame I am the other end of the country.

Midsummers Night Run Maps

Here are the maps for those of you who want to drive along the route.

This map shows the location of the Sonochan Hotel where we plan to have a meal before the start around 19:00.

The start is at the car park directly in front of the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan.

Midsummers Night Run

There's no entry fee for this run, just turn up if the idea of watching the sun set on one side of the country and seeing it rise on the other takes your fancy.

See you at the start.

Thumbs Up

Sadly, clashes with my annual fishing trip to Assynt so I'll not make it to this one. Shame, grew up in Ardnamurchan and ended up in Aberdeenshire (for a while) so know all the roads well. It'll be a good trip on those roads at that time of day, enjoy

Sounds awesome! If the start point was a bit less than a 10 hour drive from me I'd be up for it. Good luck with this event Sprinzel, hope it all goes well and you get a decent turn out.

Cry Like A Baby

Apologies for ducking out so close to the event...just noticed my front tyres are pretty much bald along the inner edge and it really wouldn't be safe to do these kind of distances on them.

Pretty gutted I can't make it...always next year though.

Know the feeling.

Just coughed up for a service today followed by a new front tyre.

Tax is up next week too.

Still, "a few magic hours against the redline" .......

..... makes it all worth it, I suppose.

We'll be at the Sonachon Hotel between 7 and 8pm tomorrow night and heading down to the start at 9:30ish.

If anyone fancies coming along, I'm in the 57 plate 147.

Please note, this will not be a convoy run but if there's a few cars at the start, we'll start at 30 second intervals to space us out on the single track road that runs for the first 30 miles or so.

Another thing, if someone catches you up, please let them pass and don't hold them back, especially on the single track road sections.

"It's 232 miles to Boddam, we have a full tank of gas, half a can of Red Bull, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."

"Hit it!"
