I'm not from Shetland but I go up there with my work every other week, but just for a couple of days at a time. (Sullom Voe)
I just fly up and hire a car at the airport, but many a time I really wish I had the Brera with me.
The roads are fantastic: long, long straights, sweeping bends, hairpins and all sorts of gradients.
And of course, very little traffic compared to here. (I think there is only about half a dozen sets of traffic lights on the whole island, and they are all in Lerwick!
The weather can be a bit iffy at times, including this winter which I believe was the worst on record for 60 years. Last summer though was much better than the mainland.
Definately worth taking the car if you're up there during the summer.
One last thing, add at least 10p per litre of fuel to what you pay here - very expensive.
