Wave Tomintoul to Cockbridge - Brilliant Drive!!

I was in Aviemore for a few days and drove back to Aberdeen on Tuesday afternoon. I went via the Lecht Ski Centre which included the afore mentioned route.

It's by far the best drive I have ever done! (Only owned a car of my own for a little over 2 years so I suppose not huge amount of driving has been done) After days of rain, the weather had dried up and the sun was threatening to shine as I wound my way up and over the hills. Anyone else done this road? I want an excuse to use it again!

A pic taken on the way:

Tomintoul - cockbridge is an awesome rd as you have experienced.

Try Braemar to Spittal o glenshee, this is the main route over the mountains, past the glenshee ski centre and onto Blairgowrie, been voted numerous times in motoring mags as 1 of the best roads in scotland.

Have done it in a couple of different Alfa Sprints when either I had no kids or the kids were small........I think my kids had extra strong neck muscles from all the G forces they got exposed to in my Alfas

Scotland is such a beautiful country........in the right weather

I have not driven these roads in the Alfa yet but have done them in my last car ( Nissan Primera ).

must agree though, great roads just for a drive.

My absolutely favourite road! Used to go up to Ardersier regularly in the 90’s and I always went via Tomitoul - I was unlucky if I came across more than 6 cars on the whole journey. I just can’t understand why anyone uses the A96 – absolutely my least favourite road!

Re: Tomintoul to Cockbridge - Brilliant Drive!!

I have family up in the tomintoul area so have covered it many a time.
The alford to huntly road is also pretty good for a blast.
In fact most of the roads around there are good, just need to keep the eyes open for a sunday driver, tourist or tractor.
Making me think "am I free on sunday for a drive?"
