Following on from bat_lezerby's thread, i'm curious if anyone has any experience with declaring modifications with insurance companies.
I know there's plenty of people who have exhaust systems and lowering springs on their cars, but has anyone gone to the hassle of declaring them? My insurance is up soon and i'd love to find a company who i could declare everything with but been only 20 i dont have much hope. I put up a similar post on a honda forum but it seems very very very few people bother, have read that liberty dont care too much but i cant even get a decent quote out of them on a standard car!
Any help is appreciated
Peter I would always err on the side of caution.
You don't want to end up in a situation where God forbid you have an accident and then find you're not covered....
With age comes wisdom (and a little cynicism too I will admit).
I was thinking of buying Sean's old 156 JTD-no problem with brake upgrade but intercooler meant 123.ie wouldn't quote me for a vehicle change (my current insurer).
i know full well but at the end of the day i am not going to be driving a standard car.
I want to do it correctly and will pay the price of correct insurance if someone will offer me that!!!
This is the thing with insurance over here. They don't want to know. They like to vilify anyone that is into modifying their cars. They don't allow people declare the stuff without fear of being forced off the road. It's either declare and pay up or don't and run the risk of them not paying out. I genuinely think it is the 18 / 19 year olds in Hondas etc. that are swapping out their engines for over powered ones without supporting mods that are causing the fear among insurance companies.
More ****e from insurance companies!
Cant get third party extension until in 21, which is in 5 months.
But trick is i have to be 21 at the start of the policy, im not waiting another year to have the extension though, so now i dont know what to do, cant get a six month policy.
Might just have to buy a policy for a year then cancel it when im 21 and start again.
Dam insurance is a pain
