My trusty chamois has died. It was old, but soft and lovely and I miss it. It finally tore in half today when I tidied up the garage and it had got itself wrapped around a circular saw blade. What a way to go!
Now, I've used one of those big microfibre towels before and it was useless. Just moved water around rather than drying the car. I have maybe one more use in an old Flash Autodry canister to keep me going. So needs to be purchased in the next few weeks as the car is getting grubby fast at the moment.
What do those in the know recommend for being extremely cheap, really good and fast in use?
Cheers
Andy
PS - cleaning the car isn't really my bag, it gets washed before shows or when it starts looking a significantly different colour.
If you get some of the 'quick wax' products that you spray on to a wet car and then dry off with a microfibre cloth, they make the cloth much more effective at drying. And your car is shinier too.
And for the flash quickdry thingy, I have recently read of people using water softerner filters intended for fishtanks with their hose to achieve the same end.
I got a Microfiber Madness Dry Me Crazy recently, it's not exactly cheap but excellent quality & soaks up loads of water, I'd say it'd probably dry 2 cars
Top marks for this towel! Can get the whole car dried in about 7 mins, no effort at all! Absolutely 100% will never touch a chamois again, this big red towel changed my life...
Also machine washable which is nice (no fabric conditioner mind! Sparse use of detergent, hot wash, and some white vinegar in the conditioner tray), just make sure to put it through on it's own as it will stain everything pink/red!!!
I still use my trusty chamois.....which has holes in it but does it's job as intended.
As stated above I'd lean away from the silicone blades....I've used one at work before to quickly dry off a car and put a lovely big scratch all the way along the door aranoid: .
Micro fibre cloths imo are ok for a final wipe over after polishing, but are naff at drying off water after rinsing.
I've used a genuine chamois to leather off for years until I discovered the ultimate synthetic replacement which I have used for the past four years or so which is brilliant.
You'll not easily find them in places like Halfrauds and other auto factoring outlets, but in my opinion they are far superior to genuine chamois skins, micro fibre cloths,or those stupid hard and stiff when dry multi-perforated synthetic sheets of crap.:tut:
I've got two of these excellent synthetic leathers for drying off now, because they never go hard or stiff, always absorb masses of water, are easily washed, and dry out quickly soft and flexible.
My two have never torn or got holes in them over the years they have been in use.
But watch out as the original was the ultimate, and I reckon the additional I have bought later on is probably a copy, good enough, but not quite good as the original purchased four years ago.
Lecture over and done.
Oh! and you can ring them out as hard as you would when twisting a gooses neck at Christmas.
Proper microfibre towel. They are not all created equal. Make sure you dry it well after using it. It will feel dry, but still actually have a a lot of water trapped in it if you don't let it dry well after a wash.
Another plus one for the microfiber madness drying towel. Incredible piece of kit, I's be lost without it.
In fact all of the microfiber madness products are unreal, not like your usual microfibers at all .
Two goes at drying the car with it and went inside the house, came outside and the car was perfectly dry and unmarked, brilliant, thanks for the recommendation
