Nah, he left the details on the windscreen and was really apologetic on the phone, had 6 of my neighbours round to offer their condolences so far. Problem is I know they will write it off so going to do it myself and he said he will order whatever i need tomorrow

I'm sorry man. :(

But, how on Earth is that a write-off??

It's a dent, a simple dent!!

Could well be if it looks to have damaged inner, outer wings and the bumper, along with paint and labour that's got to be the value of the car. Looks like a Alfa 145/146, even newest ones can't be less than 10 years old now, so probably worth about £500-£700.

I can get a new wing for £57 knock the inner wing back into shape, reckon I can fix the bumper and i'll paint it myself, also got a headlight for that side in the boot (its cracked but this one has a bracket broken so I can make a good one out of the two) and just buy and indicator. So i reckon I can do it with a new wing, new indicator and paint for under £100

Thanks bud, if all parts get here it should all be done and dusted by end of the weekend

You can see its def bent the inner wing when the bonnet is down

I dont believe this, the oils still warm in her and the Mrs is already asking if Darren is still selling his GTV................Have you no respect for the not quite dead yet woman!!!!

Tell him I will give him a slightly used 146 and a bloody great fish tank (full of fish that i hate) for it

Some good news, spoke to Roy from Auto Italiana at about 9 last night and he knows someone who is breaking a 146 so should be able to get the panel and indicator fairly cheaply. Fingers crossed eh!

And the bad news is that I'm having to get a lift into work........in a vectra :(

Thanks John, we will have her back on the road and good as new in no time. Fingers crossed for good weather this weekend, need it for the spraying:thumbs:

:( Bad news Rafe but it seems that you are well on the road to a repair, look forward to seeing the finished result.

Thanks Nige, new panel will be here in a few days, already got a litre of paint left from the sprint. Just need to get an indicator and then spend a while with some panel hammers and oxy acetelyne torch on the inner wing. Hopefully come out good as new (or knowing older alfa build quality, hopefully better then new )

Hope it turns out well, sure it will !

On a similar topic an old guy I know, local publicans dad, had a minor accident sometime last year and his old Nissan was written off by the insurance company. He didn't find this out until after he had had it repaired at his own expense, it didn't cost much and he was happy to pay out of his own pocket. As he was happy with things he ignored any correspondence from the insurance company and was happily motoring away until............

Tax renewal time came up but he received no renewal notice. He went down to the local PO who couldn't help. Went to the local DVLA office who told him the car had been written off and scrapped..............and his insurance couldn't possibly be valid as the car no longer existed !! He is still struggling to get the car legal but seems to be in an impossible situation, last I heard he was supposed to take it somewhere miles away for a DVLA inspection to say that the car is what it is supposed to be. Of course he has no insurance and cant get any as the car does not exist, talk about a true Catch 22 situation...................

Admittedly he has caused a lot of this problem by ignoring things he couldn't be bothered with. The lesson to learn in any situation like this is to make sure that all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed.

Thats a bugger Nige, but I havent informed my insurance co yet......and dont intend to as long as the guy gives me the cash tonight. Just asked him for the cost of parts and paint so dont think he should be too bothered by £100

 I think that this is the best policy, no pun intended ! :)

Hope that all goes well and you don't find any hidden nasties.

For anyone interested how the repairs eventually came out (including the Ahem....mishap by the mrs) have a look here

Mansell Racing - Alfa Romeo Projects

Running out of room for pics so put them on the karting site

Ps, still got some fading in to do with the door and bonnet but unfortunately ended up being in a rush to get it finished as i needed the car

The cars worth a lot more than that to me  but pretty much yes. Anyway, I love my cars and it would take a lot for me to get rid

Thinking about it though, I prefer the 146 to pretty much any alfa since, except the 159 (and of course the 8c)....style wise that is. Dont know why, they just dont float my boat as much.

Also the Mrs wont let me get anything else until I can afford a 159
