Touring Car Superstar

Alfa 156!

Has just raced it's last ever Touring Car race in Macau... but what a star!

James Thompson (Alfa 156 ) became the last driver who could mathematically stop Andy Prilaux from winning the championship (after Yvan Muller failed to start the second race) but needed a win, with Prilaux retiring, to nick it.

In the end, despite being second at one point, he could only finish third whle Prilaux won.. but Thompson/156 finished third in the championship, after a challenging season.

A remarkable feat for the old '56.. Thompson's was the only car to win 2 races in the same weekend (Valencia)... making him the last driver to race a 156 to victory, in that old ship's long and illustrious racing career.

Yup it was quite a weekend for JT & the 156

Here's hoping he can stop bl00dy BMW from winning another title next year !!

It'll be hard against that TDi Leon though !!

Re: Touring Car Superstar

Aye! But I understood that this season was it's last outing.

Anyone know which model will be carrying the Serpent into battle next year...? I heard the 147.. but maybe also 159, depending on who you believe.

Re: Touring Car Superstar

They could dust down the ex-Tarquini 155

Re: Touring Car Superstar

At the moment it's not going to be anything.

The 147 was suggested because of its mechanical similarity to the 156, but then the 147 will shortly cease production, so the internal question is- is it worth it, considering people will remember the 156 and there Alfa sporting for a couple of years from now. Meanwhile the initial suggestion was that the 159 was not suitable for racing.

So at the moment, it looks like Alfa will not be represented by a 'works' team for a couple of years, as was the situation between the 155 and 156 in the late '90's.

Six/twelve devils screaming

Current Others: TVR T350 Spider, AM V12 Vantage

Re: Touring Car Superstar

For being underfunded N-Technology had a great season, especially the second half when Thommo scored more points than any other driver. It will be a shame not to see the 156 next year , it did Alfa proud

Re: Touring Car Superstar

I've watched this with interest all year. Despite the best efforts of Eurosports programming, I've Sky+'d every race. The 156 has been the best looking car all year and with Thommo, has really taken the fight to the big boys

Shame Larini (ex-Alfa driver) stopped him from getting 2nd in the championship

Re: Touring Car Superstar

He's staying with N-Technology, but they haven't announced what they're replacing the Alfas with. Rumor is there might be ties with Honda planned.

Re: Touring Car Superstar
