Re: Lydden Hill

There was a rumour years ago that McLaren were buying Lydden as a test track. I don't think anything came of it and Bill Chesson or his heirs still own it.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was sold though - you've got to have somewhere to build all these houses we apparantly need.

Re: Lydden Hill

Hi, i had heard that the BRSCC wher looking at buying the circuit, but after reading motorsport news this week it states that a driver who races there on rally cross, has bought it as he likes the place. His name is Pat Doran, nice to have the money to do such a thing.
He is a very good driver and if he is as commited to the circuit as he is on track then that will be good news for its future.

Re: Lydden Hill

From what I've heard, the circuit is still owned jointly by the Chessons, and McLaren. Certainly McLaren won't sell their share, as they use the threat of moving from Woking as a stick to beat Woking Council.

Pat Doran is/has negotiated a 5 year lease, and if the negotiations went according to plan, then facilities would be upgraded as part of the 5 year plan.

As to a trackday, it's fine on a bike, but in a car, if you mess up your braking point on the Dover Straight, then you'll miss the gravel trap at Devils Elbow, and hit the tyre wall at speed.

Though the track is only a couple of miles from me, I prefer to travel somewhere with a bit more room.

Alas, the Alfa's gone.
