Well Happy Michael Schumacher back in a Ferrari F1 car

The great man is back, for a test in Barcelona. He's transferring his knowledge of cars without traction control ready for next year

How I'd love to see him race again

Re: Michael Schumacher back in a Ferrari F1 car

I'd like to see him race at Le Mans or in some other formulae, but racing again in F1? Non event, he's done everything time and again, and it would only tarnish his reputation to get outpaced by a young plucky Brit in a Mclaren....

Of course by stepping into another formulae and tasting success, he'd prove himself to be a real racing great, rather than just an F1 great.

Re: Michael Schumacher back in a Ferrari F1 car

Fact is, he's still under contract with Ferrari so not sure he can drive with other marquees ...

Perhaps he could drive the Maserati in the GT series?

Yeah these modern drivers exclusivity contracts are a joke in my eyes. In the old days a driver would race anything and everything, sometimes a couple of support races before getting into the grand prix car for the main event.

And then they'd be released to take part in the Le Mans 24 hours too.

Nowdays even retired F1 drivers are wrapped up in cotton wool by their teams

You should email him and explain why he
really needs to win one more season.

That was very impressive....i was a bit shocked by that. He was 5 seconds off the pace which means with a full commitment and plenty of practise he can give them a run for their money(clock competitive times).

To be honest I don't think he will come back (too much to loose, too little to gain) - although he must have realised he probaably would have beaten Kimi, and thus have been world champion, if he's staind this year...

Re: Michael Schumacher back in a Ferrari F1 car

In my opinion he's the best driver there has been (Senna asside) even though he's a complete tw*t. Never forgiven him for the unsporting behaviour he showed every time he was going to lose a championship by trying to take out his rivals by crashing into them. Lewis Hamilton will soon be the greatest driver ever anyway and we'll all forget the arrogant German c*nt!

Just my opinion of course

A bit, perhaps "He's the best driver apart from Senna, Prost, Mansel, Stewart, Clark, and Fangio" - oh, and me!!

Anybody who's done what Schumacher has done can afford arrogance and say what they want as far as I'm concerned. The arrogant ones are the ones that think they know better. He reached the pinnacle of his sport and stayed there long after most would have sat back and relaxed. He waited and waited for someone to come and beat him week in week out and they didn't. He's the greatest all right.

I'd loved to have seen Schumacher head to head in the same equipment with Mika Hakkinen. I think Schumacher was probably a smarter, more cerebral racer, but IMO Hakkinen was definately quicker at any given moment.

Schumi even admitted that Hakkinen was the one driver he actually feared on track.

MS is the best F1 driver there has ever been (technically its a fact with the records he has achieved etc), regardless of what people think of him, I'm not that keen on him, and the things he's done but you can not disregard facts

Actually you can.

MS is the most successful F1 driver of all time, that is unarguable. However 'successful' and 'Best' are not the same thing, necessarily.

Had Senna not been killed,he would undoubtably have won more world titles, probably taking them from Schumacher in 1994 and 95 (The Williams was a superior car to the Benneton, no doubt about it.) Had that occured and the Scumacher still won his Ferrari titles, they'd have had 5 championships a piece. Senna would have earned more poles and race wins than his shortened career already had given him. Who'd have been the 'best' then?

Modern F1 cars are very different beasts to those driven by Villeneuve, Moss, Fangio, Stewart, Surtees, Brabham and any other great of the sport that you care to mention. How would Schumacher have fared against those greats, in their equipment? Or how would fangio have compared to Schumacher in a 21st century Ferrari?

the term 'best' is at most an opinion as far as F1 is concerend, because different generations are incomparible, such is the march of technology.

Scumacher was the most successful, yes. But 'Best'? Arguable indeed.

Re: Michael Schumacher back in a Ferrari F1 car

Agreed, I should of put 'Successful' rather than 'best', and also agreed how F1 has moved on since the Villeneuve and Fangio days, (how we do miss them) but the 'what if' is never evidence to say someone is more successful than someone else (as sad as the circumstances are) otherwise i can think of quite a few 'what if' circumstances involving different drivers which could of have a different outcome on the success that MS has had, but I know where your coming from

I remember someone (cant remember who) saying that it wouldn't be that difficult (unlike the good old days) to be a F1 driver, but to actually find that magical extra second a lap quicker makes you a F1 driver, it was said after Valentino Rossi drove a Ferrari F1 car around their home circuit and was a second behind MS lap times.

Even though he did have a very fast car for those 'magical' years when he was with Ferrari, it makes you wonder why he's team mates could never match up to his performance, and he did put alot of input for the team, especially when he first joined which made them a winning team again. I think there would be a loud call of giving MS preferential treatment which i think would be kinda fair to say.

(this all coming from memory so some of these points maybe incorrect )
