Thumbs Up First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

SEAT TDi wins in WTCC

I realise this will start off all the usual anti diesel ranters but it's happened now... get over it !!

Re: First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

Did you hear the commentry Nomad ?

It was said that the petrol engine has gone about as far as it can with development - whereas the diesel has only just begun and with the low end torque......lost the rest of what was said...but I think you get the gist...

Diesel who would have thought it....

It'd be interesting to see how long it is before the TDis become regular winners and then start to dominate the series and the national ones around the world !!

Let's face it at the moment the diesel BMW in the BTCC is pants !! (Yes yes I know they/he is a privateer )

You are a dying breed BF! Very soon, petrolheads will be ostrich-sized just like smokers, drunken-drivers and Hush Puppies have become.

Re: First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

The next logical step then is surely for Diesel engines to be put into single seaters....

Just image a Ferrari diesel!!!

Re: First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

i detest diesel engines in anything other than a truck but i caught myself admiring the A8 diesel i was following the other day, it looked very nice especially as the exhaust wasnt pointing at the floor like most diesels nice car i thought maybe diesels really are improving and arent the horrible smelly rattle buckets of old, then he floored it and as i disappeared into the thick cloud of black smoke coming from his exhausts i sighed and reminded myself that they are still horrible smelly rattle buckets some diesels really are a visability hazard under hard acceleration. long live the petrol engine, especially in V6 and V8 form or maybe even a nice smooth V12

Re: First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

Well I agree about the V6 and V8 and I don't think anyone is contesting that, but I think 4clinder diesels and some small 5 cylinder diesels like the BMW and Alfa are far superior than their pertol counterparts. I really cannot see why people like the TS's - they feel slow and sound not very nice and their cambelts need changing every 30k miles amongst other negatives. I'm not saying the diesels are perfect but IMO 4 clinder petrols are the old fashioned engines!

Slow at low revs, yes, but after 4k rpm, Oh baby yes!!!!!!!

As for not sounding nice? Sorry mate, but you what? Little touches like the racey purr the engines make is part of what makes an Alfa special! It sounds devine, especially with the window down through tunnels.

Re: First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

I just don't like the sound of any 4cyl petrols. IMO they aren't 'special' engines, just run of the mill. The just sound load when having to make any kind of progress and lets face it in real terms there is not much difference between the sound of 4cyl engines from other manufacturers and Alfa ones.

Now V6's, especially the Alfa one, thats a different story altogther.

I'm not saying the diesel is that great either but atleast you do recoup some substaintial improvements, like performance and economy over the petrols.

As I usually say when the diesel vs petrol arguement comes up: Each to their own.

Re: First Le Mans.... Now WTCC

there is a ford by me and it happened a few times in my old clio and once in the afla where the engine got damp and had hardly any power so I think a diesel would be beneficial there lol.

either that or just not drive through it lol. Would love a 159 JTD though

isn't the bio-ethanol meant to be the fuel of the future though? The MG's in the BTCC are powered by it and are faster than the Alfa's.
