F1, to be environmentally friendly?

According to Autosport, F1 guru's are looking into (or have been asked to by the governing body maybe) making F1 a greener sport (and other forms of M'sport I expect). So it does beg the question, how would this be achieved.

We're already seeing VW diesels on the rally circuits, so will we ever see a diesel powered F1 car or maybe one that runs on an alternative source (like LPG??) gunning round Monza?

That sounds awfull the day will come when we won't be allowed to call ourselves petrol heads we will have to be bio ethanol heads.

Didnt mercedes set a world record recently for the fastest deisel powered vehicle ?

I thought diesel was much worse for "the environment" then petrol.

I think you're correct in that, but what other sources can they use, considering they don't exactly use unleaded straight from the pump as we do!

Re: F1, to be environmentally friendly?

Don't they have to use something close to regular pump-grade super unleaded in MotoGP? Perhaps F1 could start to copy some rules from bike racing, like swapping the teams to unleaded for starters, then gradually reducing the size of the fuel tanks and limiting the number of fuel stops so the manufacturers have to make the cars more efficient. These steps haven't slowed down the MotoGP boys down, I'm sure it could be made to work in F1.

I'm all for making motorsport as green as possible, but not if it dulls it down. Wouldn't be much fun to watch Shuey, Kimi et al hammering round big long tracks in Sinclair C5's now would it? Well, maybe it would.....

I can see the Bio-ethanol makers
licking their lips to get their snake-oil
into a high profile motorsport.

Audi won Le Mans just hope they don,t race cars like those you could not hear the engines at all just the whine from the turbos and tyre noise. If you happened to be looking away from the circuit when they went past you wouldn,t realise they had done another lap.

Everone I spoke to said if the field was full of cars that quite it would not be worth going.
