Le Mans 2006

Well I can't believe it! Its time to start thinking about Le Mans again!

Examining last years thread;

https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=34080

I booked mid April. This year I thought I'd be early. There's three of us going this year so that means we can't take the GTV. Bit of a shame really. We'll probably going in my brothers Audi. Its a diesel. Boo.

Anyone else planning on going over this year?

Re: Le Mans 2006

Again, I am reduced to fly-drive.
Again, I am reduced to a Friday-Monday trip.
Again, I am reduced to tears when I think of the state my feet are going to be in because Beausejour is so far away from the track.

Thought you boys would have learnt after last year.

I'm travelling with a bunch of AROC guys. (Mind you we booked the entrance and campsite tickets at last year's race and the ferry shortly after Christmas!)

I'd recommend travelling Newhaven-Dieppe, so try Transmanche (http://www.transmanche.ferries.org/). We go out on Wednesday morning and back on Monday lunchtime. Cost was £48 return!!!

Re: Le Mans 2006

They guys I am going with can't take time off work so its strictly a Friday/Sunday job for us. That really restricts the ferries available. It has to be late on Friday night going over and late on Sunday coming back.

I started looking a month earlier than last year. Next year I'm going to book as soon as the date for 2007 is announced.

We travelled overnight on the Transmanche boat last year. As far as coming home is concerned, you should know that the race the race wont finish until 5PM this year. However, the new Autoroute between Rouen & Alencon should be open.

If you want camping next year, you should book at this year's race. The ACO won't ask for payment until January/February. I'd recommend having your ferry sorted by Christmas.

PP, I was unable to drop over to your campsite last year after you extended your invite to me, but this year I'll be a little better able to cope with the blisters; providing of-course that the temperature remains in the late 20's...
Maybe I'll get a chance to see all your cars this year...?

Re: Le Mans 2006

We're booked on the Transmanche Newhaven to Dieppe on Friday, and the Eurotunnel coming back on Sunday night. Not great but its that or we charter our own helicopter.

How much did your Transmanche crossing set you back? Wasn't there a Sunday night crossing from Dieppe?

I think you'll find that Newhaven is about as easy as Dover to get to from Reading and Dieppe is certainly a lot closer to Le Mans than Calais.

Anyway, glad you're sorted.

Yep, everyone welcome. We'll be in the "Bleu Nord" campsite this year. It's near the airport.
The Spider boys are driving this year (2x105s, 2x750s), but I'll be keeping the coupe end up in the Pig and we should have another Giulietta Sprint.

Re: Le Mans 2006

The Sunday night crossing leaves at 8pm. That's not much time to get back from Le Mans since the race finishes at 5pm.

Re: Le Mans 2006

We have booked only last week thru the www.lemans.org web site but could only get Beasejour for camping, but there was space last year when we turned up with no tickets at all, again.

Last week there was still space on Dover-Calais with P & O @75quid. We are on a Thursday to Monday trip.

Also checked on the autoroute website for the Rouen & Alencon new road and it says its open already.

That should make the journey from Calais to Le Mans about 60 to 90 mins quicker, speed traps permitting.

Re: Le Mans 2006

I,m going throuhg the tunnel Wednesday morning and returning Monday lunch time I had no trouble booking that.
Tickets for the camp site were more of a problem but I have got a Bleu Nord pass.
I,m looking foreward to it now I,ve not been for a couple of years and going with two mates who have not been before.
If I see any Alfas I,ll come and say hello.

Paul,

We're in Bleu Nord, so make sure you come over for a beer. Have a look at this thread. There are some pics of our camp near the top of the page so that you know what to look for:
https://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/showt...t=34080&page=2

We should be hard to miss

Re: Le Mans 2006

Bill, Bleu Nord is where "Parking Bleu" is marked on this map...?
http://www.octane.ie/cult/gallery/di...album=35&pos=0
Correct?
If so, I'll see you there this year.

Re: Le Mans 2006

Basically, yes. However, the area is partly given over to camping. Here's an official map that shows the camp site & car park separately (see page 6):
http://www.lemans.org/24heuresdumans...et_24h2006.pdf

You (and other AOers) are welcome to come and join us for a beer.

Re: Le Mans 2006

We have a spare camping ticket for the 2006 race. It's for the "Bleu Nord" site next to the circuit and within easy walking distance of the Porsche Curves and pit straight Grandstands. It is valid from Tuesday 13th June until Monday 19th June.

If anyone is interested, drop me a line at [email protected] .

Look out for my red Bertone and drop in for a beer. Be good to see you and anyone else who'd care to visit. All welcome.

I'm off in about 5 hours: best go pack.

They were in great condition. I must post up the photos soon.
