Ferrari test V8 F1 engine

Ferrari completed a successful shakedown of its new 2.4-litre V8 engine at Fiorano on Tuesday.

Test driver Marc Gene logged 30 laps of the full 1.85-mile circuit and eight laps of the short 0.88-mile layout in a modified F2004 chassis and the team reported no problems.

Gene recorded a best lap time of 59.966s – approximately four seconds shy of the unofficial track record, set by Michael Schumacher last year.

The baptism of the V8 comes a month before originally scheduled as the Scuderia switches its focus to development for 2006.

Gene will continue testing the new engine at Fiorano today.

Re: Ferrari test V8 F1 engine

What engines have the F1 teams used over the years. They're all on V10's at the mo. What did they use before the 10 cylinder engines?
What does the V8 offer over the V10 anyway, less weight, more power?
So full of questions today.

Re: Ferrari test V8 F1 engine

It`s a new regulation to curb speeds, so smaller engine gives less power

Re: Ferrari test V8 F1 engine

Ferrari used to use V12's in F1 and were one of the last teams to switch to V10's. The reasons for using the V8 in the 2.4 instead of a V10 is that 300cc or thereabouts is the optimum cylinder size.

but but, Ferrari cannot just make a V8 2.4 liter coz they feel like it..... there are regulations to adhere to.

Are the regs changing from 2.0 to 2.4...... maybe its a good time to introduce the Alfa 2.4 MJet TD engine... now wouldn't that be some power plant.

Well twin turbo diesels would make for a change...somehow the nakka nakka of diesels does not hit the same spot in the heart
