F1 2013 Discussion Thread

Well, it appears that McLaren are going to ditch Mercedes and team up with Honda as they dont' want to pay £8 million for their engines McLaren want to ditch Mercedes and reunite with Honda | The Sun |Sport|Motorsport

Does anyone else find it ironic that the team that used to be Honda is now Mercedes!!?

Agree with the irony.

Not exactly the most fulsome report though and some of the comments make certain of the exchanges on here look like a meeting of MENSA

Will be interesting to see if any of the more established F1 press pick up on it.

I have to say I can't see how McLaren can continue being reliant on MB for customer engines as Daimler throws more and more cash at the factory team. McLaren are used to be the flag bearer for a manufacturer's F1 efforts so in that regard the Honda link certainly makes sense.

I still harbour a sneaky feeling that ultimately VAG might dip a toe into F1 using Porsche. How about a return to the TAG McLaren turbo days as a long shot ??????

Maybe, but part of me wonder that if the VAG group are going to enter fromula 1 would it make more sense to do so with hte Bugatti brand?

mmmmm hadn't thought of that - sounds daft I know but might that even be too posh for F1 ? I know they have history in that regard but Bugatti now competes with yachts and planes for people's cash.

I may of course just be being a bit too wistful about the thought of low capacity, turbocharged, high output TAG Porsche engines making a comeback strapped to a McLaren

Toyota

That save by Dino Zamparelli on the right compares with Massa's at Singapore.

Is there any tech Honda can use from their V6 Turbo they're using Stateside?

Thumbs Up

Suzi Perry - hmmmmmmm (in the 'Homer Simpson style'). Good choice as presenter, be interesting to see how she gets on marshalling the 'boys' especially Eddie

I am MADE UP about Suzi coming back to the Beeb.
She will tower over DC and Eddie and will easily keep them in place.
Might just watch the highlights just for her....

Well Folks.......

Whilst I have nothing against Suzi Perry ....I really don't think she is the right person to present the BBC Formula 1 show, I know she was good on the MoTo GP series, BUT is she up for this one........

BTW.....I still cannot believe the BBC will NOT be showing the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix live, that really is a sad state of affairs all round.......

Its a slowly, slowly approach in that they lose one major GP a season and in 8 years from now `BBC and F1 will no longer be.

Totally agree: revised contract until 2018 is for BBC to cover 50% of races live..but no guarantee of which races. In any case, given recent performance will the BBC still be in existence in 5 years time?

Most valuable F1 teams according to forbes......interesting numbers:

1. Ferrari - Chris Smith Nothing But Net - Forbes

Very good chance that Ferrari will have the biggest budgets for next 2 seasons. It seems they will go all out with money, creativity in design as well as rule interpretations. We'll have two very intersting seasons i can't wait!

Yes, it is shocking isn't it. Does anyone know why they aren't? I assume it's something to do with money?

Probably EVERYTHING to do with money I would have thought, its the main reason the BBC lost out to SKY in the first place, they just didn't have enough money to match the SKY bid for Formula 1, and as the Monaco Grand Prix is the most glamorous ( if not the most exciting though ) on the calendar, I wouldn't be suprised if SKY offered a HUGE amount of money for it live. Very sad IMHO.........
