Crazed HAMILTON TO MERCEDES. The numpty.

I think he's certainly shot himself in the foot and face. Twice.

What are folks' opinions on it then? Oh and Perez is replacing him at MacLaren!

Thats good news as far as I'm concerned, as it probably gets that dangerous arrogant cheating git Michael Schumacher out of Formula 1, before he rams another driver off the track, or causes someone a serious or fatal injury........

As for Hamilton, time will tell on that one I suppose, don't think McLaren will be supporting his outside bid for the Drivers Champioship this Year, methinks......

SKY News just saying this move has NOT been confirmed yet, but Mercedes are holding a press conference later this Morning, originally to announce the retirement of Michael Schumacher, but it looks like it will almost certainly involve the news that Hamilton IS indeed signed up for Mercedes for next Season......

With McLaren going to "customer" status on the Mercedes engine (is it next year?) it may be a smart move in the long term. However, it is a massive gamble career wise. Whilst I dislike McLaren immensely I do respect what they have done in F1, they are there or thereabouts virtually all the time.

Toyota proved that despite manufacturer backing and a bottomless pit of money, it doesnt always bring success....

In two minds about whether it is a smart move or not but IMHO it is wrong to be angry with him for leaving mclaren.

He's been with the team along time and undoubtedly owes his break into F1 to them but every moves on.

I haven't stayed with an employer as long as he has and I doubt many others have either.

Yes there's the financial aspect but he may genuinely be looking forward to the challenge of getting Merc up to the top. Brawn knows what he's doing and with the rule changes in 2014 they have a great opportunity.

Just don't expect fireworks in '13 (although no doubt the press will be all over him like a case of herpes when he has a bad 'un next year!).

Cheers

It will probably teach him a lesson as he watches the 2013 Mclarens zoom past him to remind him of where he could have been.

Frankly, couldn't care less where he (or any other driver to be honest) drives. F1 is a business whose product is a sport.

That Hamilton has associated with McLaren for umpteen years is unusual, but eventually children do leave home, and this is pretty much what is happening here I guess.

I think that Perez could be very good for McLaren - he clearly has talent. I doubt that the Alonso situation will be repeated as FA was already a champion when he joined the team and was expecting to be alongside a compliant rookie. SP knows that Button is there, so no surprises.

Two things will be interesting from all of this - (1) how long before LH makes an impact at Mercedes, and (2) how far will McLaren design their 2013-15 cars around JB.

As for Schumacher, is this his second retirement? Guess that will be made clear later. There was a report that Peter Sauber would sign him if one of their drivers left and he became available....

Presumably all this secures Massa's position at Ferrari.........unless MSC goes there.....?????

Just remember that there is absolutely NO mention of the Schumeister's retirement and a Prancing Horse is getting very frisky in the background awaiting its Master's return.

.....Hamilton, Samiltan who care's? money is his only motivation.

Do people genuinely believe MS will find his way back into a Ferrari seat ?

There are at least two good reasons why this isnt going to happen.

1 - Alonso is the new driving force at Ferrari, the team is built around him and he wants to build a Schumacher-esque dynasty. The King is dead long live the King etc. Letting MS back into the fold is 100% not a part of that game plan.

2 - Schumacher is now heavily involved with MB at a corporate level. He will be found a role acting as an MB brand ambassador selling MB and being involved in developing and marketing AMG sports cars rather than be allowed to go off and represent both an on-track and on-road competitor.

He's 7 times WC and he can literally do what ever he want's.
RSK you are forgetting that Mercedes already had a contract ready for him to sign just in June and it was Michael who chose not to sign the contract.

As I mentioned in the F1 thread, if Vettel is going to Ferrari for 2014, then Schumacher going to Ferrari for one season would keep Vettel's seat warm and allow Schumacher the chance to end his F1 career on a slightly higher note. At Singapore Massa's save beat Schumacher's momentary lapse of concentration.

Hopefully Perez will drop the moaning when stuff like Maldonado happens. He looked a bit of a chump when telemetry showed Maldonado didn't intenetionally nurf him off at Silverstone. Have we seen enough of Perez to know how good he is? How much has it been due to the car and tyres getting in the sweet spot and strategy?

I was reading Roebuck's bit in the McLaren special Motor Sport issue lastnight. There didn't seem to by anything new in there on this matter, I guess that's in part to how print media is hobbled by the speed of the web these days but again it mentioned XIX and attempts to make Hamilton more of a brand like Beckham. I don't mind Beckham, but he doesn't alter my buying habits. I guess the chance to make money from your image is constrained by age and time and so Hamilton needs to do it now. Again what with the rule change there could be a benefit to being at Mercedes in 2014.

True, and I guess Perez has all that backing to help pay for the Merc. motors.

I guess they know he'll do as he is told and take one for the team if told to.

Perez beating Alonso would have kept the championship closer and mean he'd be the second person after Vettel to win with a Ferrari customer engine. Could have been 'proven race winner Perez joins McLaren, possibly the most successful team in the history of F1'.

The touble is the news on the contract negotiations, Vettels LED laden helmet and Jenson's GF's tattoo has been of more interest than the last three races that included tracks like Spa and Monza. F1 needs to sort it and provide some on track racing. For me it's getting as bad as Schumacher winning from the refuelling in and out laps and passing in the pits.

Perhaps now Perez is off to McLaren should the opportunity to win arise again there won't be any interference from the pit wall?
