How to watch F1 for free next year.

Here is a useful forum on how to watch F1 for free next year.

Formula One FTA Solution?! - Technical - Digital Spy Forums

What you need is a Free to air satellite box such as this. (Not Freesat as it won't work)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1707149360...84.m1497.l2649

If you plug this into your Sky satellite dish there is a good chance depending on where you are in the UK you are that it will pick up a good signal on the Astra 19.2E satellite without moving your dish.

If you cannot pick it up, a slight tweak of your dish should allow you to pick up 19.2E and the Sky satellite (Astra 28.5E) at the same time. If you can't you may need a second dish, although if you still have an old dish from the previous sky analogue installation it will already be correctly aligned to Astra 19.2E

You then program the Free to air box to receive RTL (German) or TF1 (French) as F1 is shown free on those channels.

You then set your DAB radio to 5 live and listen to the commentary in English.

The whole lot even if you need a second dish should cost under 50 to do.

You should also be able to pick up other interesting satellite channels from 19.2E and other satellites with the same kit.

I have.

I did need to move the dish slightly, but I have retained all of the original channels as well.

Thanks for the help on the other thread.

Up yours Sky.

I'm currently using a Panasonic TV with a built in Freesat tuner.
If I buy one of the above tuners off eBay will I be able to by-pass the built in tuner?

Thanks.

Depending on the type of connecting cable used it will show as an AV or HDMI input, just like any recorder/player or set-top box.

Dave,
Thanks for the info. I think I'll get one of those tuners & give it a go.

Best regards,
Roy.

RTL Deutschland has good f1 coverage, only problem are their commercial breaks. But if you can stomach that it's a good alternative

They don't have commercial breaks, they have racing breaks! 20 minutes of ads per hour, first 3 laps ads, next 10 laps ads etc. It is very difficult to follow.

RAI 1 in Italy show the race without ads, together with 5 live could be a solution.

Found this but not tried it yet.

For anyone thinking about trying this.

TF1 isn't free-to-air (FTA) on 19.2E, it's only FTA on 13E. If you can pick-up both 19.2E and 28.2E (which is where your friendly Sky Installer points your dish when it's setup) at the same on a Sky Mini-Dish you are doing very well. You'll never pick up 13E and 28.2E at the same time with one LNB block.

I've just setup my system, initially I tried two separate LNBs on a 68cm dish, results were a bit hit and miss, whilst I could get a separate sat feed to each LNB I couldn't get the two satelites I wanted. I'm sure with time I could have got there, but I was fed up with standing on a ladder messing around with the angles.

What I have ended up doing is buying a motor to drive the dish to the approprate satelite, much easier to setup, you just have to point it at one satelite, from that it can work out where the others are (there's a bit more to it than that, such as finding south to get the right angle to track the arc of satellites). Most Sat-Tuners have built in software to power the motor and drive it the appropriate location, motor was 50 and could be fitted to any dish.

I did all this faffing around with mahoosive dishes and foreign boxes a few years ago for the footie.

I just use internet streams now, quality is so much better than it used to be, and your house doesn't look like an eyesore from the big dish.

I can also just log in to my mums sky account and watch the f1 channel on the internet.

So are the Live-Streams watchable on a 46" TV for instance?

I watch them on my 40" led screen or even sometimes on the projector and that's about 70" screen.

check here on the day of the race, should have a decent stream. this is where most of the footie ones come from too.

of all the different types, sopcast is by far the best to use for me, download the player for free, just google sopcast player.
